Chris Yates speaks

The Illinois Loyalty Recruiting Correspondent weighed in on a number of topics the past few days.

"The dismissal of Jamar Smith simply means that BW has the option of using a scholarship in '09 if he can find that elusive additional scholarship that we're all hoping to be available in '10. With Jamar Smith off the grid, his scholarship serves as an open slot in '08 and '09, meaning that BW could sign a four-year player beginning in '08 or '09 just as well as one starting in '10. I think that the need for a true point guard means that Chris Colvin becomes a very attractive option, so you now have to add him to the discussion along with Lavonte Dority (a longshot in '10) and DeAndre McCamey (a good shot in '10). The question then becomes whether BW should take the best overall recruit (e.g., Harrison Barnes or Lenzelle Smith) or the best pure point guard he can get."
