Week off is a positive for Illini

There are aspects to the Illini football schedule that coach Ron Zook doesn't like.
Who, for example, would want to open the Big Ten against Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan State? Who would want to play Cincinnati and Fresno State after the conclusion of Big Ten play? The lineup is bizarre.
But Zook applauds Saturday's bye, even if he might prefer it a week or two later. Key squad members are already a bit banged up and, with Thursday to Sunday off, all should report back fully healed Monday. The bye allows time for personnel reappraisal, a thorough evaluation of Ohio State and a chance for the staff to get a recruiting jump with two-day excursions this weekend.
