Starting spot open for Alex Legion - if he earns it

"We need our older guys to be our best players,'' said Illinois coach Bruce Weber. "Then the freshmen can jump on board and join the journey. If we have to depend on the freshmen to be the lead horses, they're tremendously gifted, but over the long course of the season it's going to take a toll on them.''
If Illinois sticks with the three-guard lineup, the candidates are Legion and freshman Brandon Paul - who is so athletic, "I don't even have an adjective for it,'' Weber said. However, Paul, a Gurnee Warren standout who is the state's reigning Mr. Basketball, is still making the transition to college intensity and improving his ballhandling.
