When did Illinois cease to be competitive with the better teams in the Big Ten? What happened to all that ballyhooed talent? Who swiped the Illini's spunk? When did Ron Zook lose contact with a squad that was 9-4 two years ago? Where is this program headed?
On a sunshiny but otherwise dreary 99th homecoming Saturday, the beleaguered Illini picked up where they left off against Missouri, Ohio State and Penn State ... overwhelmed and disillusioned. The loss to Michigan State was not as close as the final score, 24-14.
