April 10, 2010 10:56 AM
Scheelhaase is competing with sophomore Jacob Charest and freshman Chandler Whitmer. A mobile quarterback who uses his legs as much as his arm, the speedy Scheelhaase puts himself in a position to take hits while running the option, rolling out on bootlegs and scrambling.
Sooner or later, the Illini coaching staff would like to see how the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., performs when he's a target for tacklers. The Illini scrimmage at 2:30 p.m. today at Memorial Stadium, but coach Ron Zook wouldn't say when he'll make the quarterbacks live for contact.
