Eddie McGee named backup quarterback

Heading into preseason practice, Illinois senior Eddie McGee isn't just a receiver. He's the also backup quarterback if there's an emergency, coach Ron Zook confirmed Tuesday.
Redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase is a solid starting quarterback after taking the overwhelming majority of snaps with the first-string offense during spring practice. Sophomore Jacob Charest transferred to Division II Catawba in June, leaving the Illini with freshmen Chandler Whitmer and Miles Osei as the other scholarship quarterbacks.
