Zook still on hook despite light load

Pessimism surrounds the program that has won more than three games in two of his years at Illinois, but Zook projected a calm and confident demeanor in the face of growing criticism about his job performance.

"Everyone who stands up here today has pressure," Zook said. "Obviously, some of us have more than others. Everyone wants to paint a doom-and-gloom picture. As long as I know we've done all we can do, that's all we can do."

While Michigan's Rich Rodriguez has a hotter seat, suddenly Penn State's 83-year-old Joe Paterno seems old after intestinal issues this summer (more appropriately, "a little below the intestines," he said). Zook is on the list of coaches to watch.
