Zook's strategy would have been appropriate if (1) there had been more time on the clock, (2) the opponent was someone less dominant defensively than Ohio State and (3) the strong north wind had been blowing the other direction.
Trouble is, in those 4 1/2 minutes, Illinois NEEDED A TOUCHDOWN. Period! Two field goals don't count to seven.
