Bears, Illini staying focused on task at hand

In a sun-kissed and empty Rice Stadium, the Illinois Fighting Illini were practicing in what Houstonians consider a cool front.

There was sweating, cheering and optimism in their preparation for Wednesday's Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium against Baylor. While nearby joggers were covered head-to-toe in the 46-degree Sunday afternoon, the players couldn't have been happier to be 950 miles away from Champaign, where several inches of snow blanketed their campus with temperatures in the low teens.

"Houston people actually seem to think it's cold here today," said Illini redshirt freshman quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase. "But this is love for us, and it feels great to be in this city."
