Illini seek right balance between fun and football

Ron Zook has coached in four bowl games and played in three, but a Rodeo Bowl is a first for the Illinois coach.

Players were scheduled to compete in rodeo events Monday night, two days before the Illini face Baylor in the Texas Bowl. Zook understands football is accompanied by festivities at this time of year, and it's his job to strike a balance.

"They understand it's an honor and a privilege to be here," he said after practice Sunday at Rice University. "It's also a reward for all the hard work. We have curfew and those things. It goes back to making the right decisions."
