Illinois wrecks Baylor's Texas Bowl appearance with win

It was a massive letdown for the Bears of coach Art Briles, who led Baylor (7-6) to a bowl game for the first time since 1994 and the school's first winning record of the Big 12 era, and for the bulk of a partisan crowd of 68,211 that drove through heavy thunderstorms to reach Reliant, only to see Illinois (7-6) roll up 533 yards on offense.

"It's a bad feeling to have your face turned red," Briles said. "I am extremely proud of our seniors and our football team and what they have accomplished. There's been 16 classes who came before them who never got to experience what they allowed our Baylor nation to experience.

"We have taken a step in a positive direction, undoubtedly, but we now have to remember how it feels like not to be able to hoist that trophy."
