10 in-state basketball players who must step up

1. Brandon Paul, Illinois, shooting guard, junior: He's shown at times throughout his first two seasons he can be the most gifted offensive player on the floor. When his shot's falling, he's getting to the basket and he's utilizing his tremendous athleticism, Paul can nearly be unstoppable. He's had six games of 20 or more points the last two years. The problem is he's also had 47 games of single-digit scoring. For Illinois to succeed next season, Paul has to shed his inconsistencies and become the team's go-to player.

4. Meyers Leonard, Illinois, center, sophomore: Now with all four of last year's main frontcourt players gone, Leonard will have to emerge as Illinois' top interior defender and rebounder. Leonard has the potential. He was a top-50 recruit coming out of high school, but he has a lot of ground to make up in a short time.
