Illinois planning hoops reunion August 6

Cardinal, whose son is Dallas Mavericks' reserve forward Brian Cardinal, serves as coordinator of special projects for coach Bruce Weber and the latest project on the drawing board is an alumni game to be played Aug. 6 at the Assembly Hall.

Cardinal said Friday he has rounded up about 30 willing former players, headlined by former Illini and current New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams.

"It's being billed as the Illinois Basketball Family Gathering," Cardinal said. "It will coincide with Deron and his Point of Hope (charity) event."
