Dee: 'An honor to come back'
August 1, 2011 9:42 AM
Looking back, Dee Brown remembers a college recruitment that was pointed more toward East Lansing than Champaign-Urbana.
As told by Dee -- one of, what, a half-dozen former Illini that have no use for a last name? -- he was this close to becoming a Spartan.
"I was 45 minutes away from Michigan State. And I had that great relationship with Coach (Tom) Izzo," Dee says while grabbing a late dinner in Chicago. "That's why when I played Michigan State I always played so well. No one knew I was on the phone with Coach Izzo at the same time I was on the phone with Coach (Bill) Self."
