Illini alums put on a show

But the intrasquad scrimmage that was the current team's final tuneup before an exhibition tour of Italy was a chance to realize what a load of potential new big man Nnanna Egwu has. He played for both teams, accumulated 16 points and seven rebounds and already has a body as physically developed as some past Illini seniors.

And Crandall Head had a few moments where fans were reminded that he has the "Luther" gene, a hereditary bit of athletic freakishness passed down from his brother, an unfortunate no-show for the alumni game. Crandall Head had 11 points for the orange team, which won the scrimmage.

The only down note to the scrimmage, other than 3-for-24 shooting from 3-point range, was an injury sustained by center Meyers Leonard.
