Scheelhaase, Jenkins outstanding in Illini's 38-35 win over NU

"For them saying they're Chicago's team, we definitely walked in with a chip on our shoulder," quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase said. "We feel like we're a pretty established team in the state. ... This year we feel like we're the Illinois state champ for all cities."

Before the game, coach Ron Zook shook hands with offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and told him to avoid being cautious. The Illini (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) held nothing back to rally from a 28-10 third-quarter deficit and a 35-31 disadvantage with just 1 minute 15 seconds remaining for their third-straight comeback victory.

"I think they're getting the toughness, the swagger," Petrino said. "Until that clock strikes zero, they believe they're going to win."
