John Groce's player development philosophy: Chart everything
April 11, 2012 8:28 AM
JG certainly is demanding, as are most BCS level coaches. His staff has charted every shot taken in every drill so far in workouts, for instance. I read that he did this at Ohio and that a handful of players transferred his first year there as he charted all lifting, shooting, times in dribbling drills, even scoring (including steals made and charges taken) in scrimmages. The other day they tracked steals in a scrimmage game and awarded teams points for each steal along with points for baskets and even extra points for transition baskets. It's part of his player development philosophy -- chart everything so each player and the coaches can see how a player's shooting is improving, regressing, etc.
