Illini to look at Coastal Carolina's Sam McLaurin

McClaurin is listed at 6-8, 230 pounds. He's not a 7-footer, but he's very much a post player. If you check out his highlight tape, you'll see that he knows what he is - a guy who doesn't stray far from the basket and whose points come mostly on dunks and put-backs. He also appears to be pretty athletic and a battler, although I didn't see any tapes of him going up against Michigan State or Ohio State...

I think it would be dangerous to go into the season assuming that Nnanna Egwu and Ibby Djimde will automatically make enough progress to be solid in the post. That's the hope, but some insurance would be a good idea.
