Al Martindale wrapping up quite a career
May 27, 2012 3:14 PM
Martindale worked with four football head coaches (Mike White, Lou Tepper, John Mackovic and Ron Turner) before working with one basketball head coach (Bruce Weber). He taped, iced, bandaged, scolded, stitched, treated and protected thousands of athletes.
Al once bought a bicycle helmet for Tim Brewster after putting the tight end's forehead back together with 25 stitches. Due to the swelling, a football helmet wouldn't fit.
He once was challenged to a boxing match in the training room. Point guard Chester Frazier argued he should be able to play with a broken hand, because, darn it, this is my broken hand.
