So what's the status on Demni?
His handlers tried to bluff a 2 mil NIL bid and Illinois walked away?
There still a decent chance he plays in college next year, or is he most likely staying in Madrid?
Nothing's settled until the students are on campus practicing, but I remain a little confused how quickly things went from "It's not about money, it's about a visa" to "The money ask is too high a hill to climb, we've moved on".
I have the feeling that Richmond making a decision means that Illinois has already chosen to go in a different direction.
That or the Richmond decision spurs Illinois to quickly make a move in a different direction.
Now it feels like the roster has everything it needs absent a primary scorer wing and maybe a secondary ball handler/small guard defender.
Which are big pieces, to be sure.
Some posters tear down players after they decide not to play for Illinois.
Some posters tear town players after they decide TO play for Illinois.
And tis is how these threads get 20 pages per day.
From what I've seen, each team will have a conference rival that they will play twice every year:
Illinois-Northwestern
Wisconsin-Minnesota
Iowa-Nebraska
Washington-Oregon
UCLA-USC
Michigan-Michigan State
Indiana-Purdue
Ohio State-Maryland
Rutgers-Penn State
I'm also curious if they'll try to schedule longer trips as back to backs, like the Pac-12 did, where you could do Oregon and Washington on a Thursday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday and knock it out all at once.
Still don't like that only 15 teams will be in the conference tournament next year. Feels bad. It'd be better if they even just played a first round at schools' home courts and whittled it down to 15 or 16 for the neutral tournament, if it's a question of making the days/teams work.
It does seem like several people are interpreting the May 1 deadline as some sort of player signing deadline, which is hugely impatient.
They also see these programs like Michigan, Indiana, Louisville and other recovering disasters scoop up talent fast like it's going out of style and then panic.
