That's effectively the underlying question in all of this. Nobody wants the staff to hosts visits for the sake of it. But, it would be nice to generate enough interest to even get an OV. It's quite (unfortunately) eye-opening when you stress in-state recruiting in your opening presser, seem to...
And his (Eppy) tenure overlapped with BB at Iowa. To have that connection and not even get an OV is just another reminder how tough this thing will be. We may not even get OVs from most/all of the top 15 in-staters. That's just not sustainable
I know it's a bit of a broken record at this point, but amazing that we can't even get visits from top in-staters, even ones that BB should have a decent relationship with
It's about selling a vision about what the program will look like in 2-3 years when those students are a major part of the program. If the trend line is pointing up, the story is compelling. If you just pissed down your leg throughout the most forgiving schedule in years, it's a much more...
You mean, once those 4* players get beat out by better 4-5* players?? Yeah, that will be quite the problem for them. I would love to be in such a predicament
Here's a state legislature, an administration, and a coaching staff that is completely aligned on finding competitive advantages for a football program. I am envious...
I think I am on board with most of these, but I am on the fence on #1. If this was 5 years ago, I would definitely say that BB is the right guy. In the NIL/portal era where A) talent is legally acquired and B) the talent rarely sticks around for 2+ years, we may be faced with an 'adapt or die'...
It was capitalized on, just amazingly not by our staff. In the 24-25 class, Purdue has commitments from:
- 3 DBs that are 4* ranked
- 2 DBs that are high 3* ranked
Here is the 247 2024 in-state ranking
https://247sports.com/season/2024-football/recruitrankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=IL
We got #19 and #24 out of the top 30. It's slightly better when viewing composite rankings
Yet we certainly recruited a majority of the list. Just got beat...
2 years ago, I would've agreed with you. Getting 2 in-state top 10 commits is fabulous. But, 2024 was a huge swing and miss, and 2025 is shaping up to be even worse if that is possible. We're not even on radars for top guys in '25.
Purdue has a top 50 overall player committed, Minnesota has the top in-state player committed. Both had significantly better '24 classes than us as well
