[QUOTE="zpfled, post: 1320312, member: 5335"] Haha, you must know me in real life, or else that history major guess was really lucky. Yeah I majored in history. I'm sure majoring in CS would have been better for my career...at least I would have gotten into software engineering a lot sooner. But we're not talking about JCL getting a CS degree...he's getting a business education. Bottom line is, the tech industry in the midwest is mainly in Chicago. If you want to start a tech company like JCL purportedly does and you want to stay in the Midwest, Chicago is where most of the action is. I just don't think that getting a business degree from U of I is all that important for his career goals. Plus, maybe Underwood wanted him to focus more on basketball and less on his entrepreneurial ventures. That's total speculation on my part, but seems plausible. In that case, staying at U of I is directly in conflict with his business goals. This whole conversation started out because someone commented that it's a shame JCL was willing to sacrifice his business career goals because he wanted more playing time, or something like that. I'm just making a point that college is often overrated when it comes to return on investment for people who want to start or work for a tech startup and that a slightly worse (but still decent) school in a more advantageous location could be a net gain for his career goals.
