They aren't unbeatable.

A free and loose TSJ changes everything. Bring the defense again. Bring the effort again. Put your chips all in.

One special night.

I mean with a special night I think we beat them by 10 (not to sound like an ISU fan). UConn wins a 7 game series, but I don’t think they would sweep it.

Contain Spencer from hitting 3's. To me, when they need a bucket, they run a play for him. Otherwise, similar to us, their athletes make plays for themselves and their 2 bigs clean up.

We match their size overall. They have not been in a close matchup that tests their nerves. I think this comes down to the wire and Orange reigns supreme.

Domask hits FTs late. They run a play to win but it rims out. Check your heart rate.

Illini: 87
UConn: 86
If this game hits the over we win by more than 1.

-going to have to defend tomorrow
-need to make a lot of threes, Coleman in particular is going to need to make some to pull Clingan out of the lane
-Quincy/Goode need to play well, won't be a Rodgers game. wouldnt hurt if Harmon found it either.

The pressure is all on UCONN.
The Illini can play with nothing to loose since the pressure is on UConn. Just doi it Illini. Great effort from the Illini vs Iowa St ...when things looked bleak in the 2nd half, the Illini held it together and came on strong in the last 3 minutes.

Molto Bravo Illini !!!

Remember: UNLV was considered unbeatable in the 1991 national semifinal game. Had won 45 consecutive games and Duke were 8-point 'dogs to them. No one gave Duke a chance. Absolutely no one. I still remember watching them beat Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony and Larry Johnson and Anderson Hunt. Stone cold beat them.

We're loose, we're rolling, it's house money, no one respects us, and best of all no one expects us.

Do it. :illinois:

I almost threw up 100 times. Survive and advance
I LITERALLY threw up with about a minute left. Ms. DawgClassic brought out a nice, fresh tomato salad with about six minutes left and I told her “ooh no, I can’t eat right now.” Well, I nibbled on it at the breaks, and for whatever reason it didn’t sit well in my already bubbling stomach and I had to let’er rip as the game was winding down.

Fortunately, I was watching the game on the patio so I had plenty of places to hurl. Unfortunately, it’s where Ms. DawgClassic is planning to do some gardening today, so she made me hose it down during postgame.

Other than the win itself, THAT’S what I’ll remember about the Iowa State game.

Exactly! We've already gone further than expected. We got nothing to lose.

I wouldn't bet on us winning. But who bet on Villanova in 1985 or NC State in 1982? Sometimes David beats Goliath.

I love the interview with Hawkins after the game when he was asked if the Illini could hang with UCONN. He started out by saying he hadn’t watched film on them yet and then proceeds to break down a handful of UCONN’s tendencies.

UCONN is supremely talented, experienced and focused. BU will have our guys prepared though.

Duke-UNLV 1991
Wisconsin-Kentucky 2015

Big upsets happen in a one-shot event.
That was back when Duke was a plucky little over-achiever who kept making the Final Four but just couldn’t get over the hump. To think I was actually rooting for them to finally get their first natty by getting by the big, bad monster UNLV.

A new monster was born that day.

I think Clingan will give us some issues at the rim. So perhaps we need to challenge him to hopefully give him fault trouble. (Shannon's job again) But even if we can do that, that might not be enough because they don't always run their offense through Clingan. They have so many guys that can score and can rain threes on you. They are a very good rebounding team and I am not sure if their defense is a drop-off from Iowa State. Our defense is designed to run people off the 3 pt line and it better works on Sat. I think we need to play a A+ defense game in order to win it.

Last night was the tourney game that IL always loses. Bad free throws poor 2nd half shooting some dumb turnovers and a few bad whistles. Yet somehow they won the game.

Is UConn better than IL - yes but the beauty of one and done is you don’t have to be better 4 out of 7. Just got to beat em once. UConn is overdue for a tight game. Will game pressure get to them. Also the Illini program is beyond way overdue to pull out a big unexpected win in this type of situation. Let’s be the 89 Michigan this year. Just hot when they have to be.

I’m sure They’ve had some staff members preparing the scout for UConn as soon as the bracket came out.
probably not when the bracket came out, but they have definitely had someone working on UConn (and SDSU) since Sunday
