I am a long-time White Sox fan. But I have always respected the Cardinals and their great baseball legacy and fans. The White Sox are a foundational AL franchise with great fans as well. The White Sox are the Chicago baseball team – let’s say, for the adults in the City. But the Sox have suffered from mostly bad ownership over their many years and so their game record has long suffered. While the Cards have clearly had many great winning seasons. Many a night while growing up I would tune in KMOX to listen to the broadcast of a team that actually knew how to win games. To get that taste of another Sox loss out of my thoughts for a bit. Now we Sox fans have to live with the idea that the current Sox owner will move the team out of Chicago if he doesn’t get his way with State taxpayer funding for a new ballpark. Just another insult to we the fans. I hope all you Cardinal fans know how lucky you are to have a winning team to follow for most of your seasons. And you have no worries of anyone daring to move the Cards out of town (like the Browns did to St. Louis many years ago). Who knows what the Sox future will be. So...best of luck to your Redbirds and you fans all through Missouri and Southern Illinois and Arkansas and elsewhere in the rest of this season. And know that for me it’s fun to watch the Sox playing NL teams now in addition to their regular schedule. And the Cardinals could one day be a great Sox rivalry. As maybe in the future we’ll still have a ball club in Chicago to root for (for us there IS only one team in Chicago and there is no other) and we’ll be playing the Cardinals for a very long time to come. Friendly rivals who respect each other.
