I took my son to that camp. He had a great time, and Dain was sending shots across the court. Sad to see Dain go, but hopefully he does well at Memphis!
I think in our "two-year window" methodology, the process works like this:
Year 1:
Load up on multi-year guys and see who develops
Get enough old talent to be competitive
Year 2:
Shed players that didn't develop
Pay the guys you want to keep
Get older stars to fill gaps
Even if we get KJ, which seems less like a foregone conclusion, and more like a coin flip at this point, our ceiling is pretty limited to a sweet sixteen appearance. Is that terrible? No, but we are probably talking 6-8 seed.
My perception of this season has changed to one of moderate success...
The excitement over AJ Storr was that he was seen as a plug and play type replacement for TJ. He's an extremely aggressive player going downhill to the basket and loves to initiate contact to get to the line.
Comparing anyone else we may get to TJ is pointless as our offense will be completely...
Disagree slightly here: Weber got decent enough guys, but they weren't guys that fit his system and couldn't adjust his system to fit the guys he got.
He outed himself as a small school system coach that got a gift from Bill Self that bought him a lot of grace when the wheels inevitably...
To say that we did anything but miss on our top scoring/wing targets so far is an absolute lie. We can try to sell that these kids are a better fit, so we feel better about what we missed on, but that's not 100% true.
If we are paying $1M (which is much more than other bidders!)for some 17yr...
