I like the staff holding Keshawn accountable and playing the junior guys who are outperforming

How about holding those accountable who make stupid penalties. Without that horse collar (when he was on his way out of bounds), this is a different game. The refs dont have a chance to call BS pass interference or miss a spot call.

If your going to make stupid penalties you dont need to be in the game.

Sucks that the refs gave this game away, but the team showed an impressive amount of improvement since the WMU game.

Was very proud of the way they fought in this game. After the last couple of games, I was expecting more of a blow out, but they had a fighting chance at winning this one. We are getting better.

Don't even care if beat Purdue.

I agree it was a good effort and lots of improvement, but we're back to square one next year.

2-3 more years...

LOL. I searched twitter to see if anyone had pictures of that play. Came across this tweet I had forgotten about - Massively unfair to Illinois and Nebraska. The stadium had 2nd down. The chains had 3rd down. It was 4th.

This was way better than what I sat through two weeks ago. This gives me hope that this year won't be a redux of 2005 and 2012 where the conference games were largely over by the 3rd Quarter.

I hate talking about the refs... But man that was bad... That stupid drive that won the game was stopped on multiple occasions... Our defense was gassed after that. Nebraska kiss your lucky stars.... You were gifted a game. Good job Illinois, the score does not reflect the game that was played at all.

Our D looked a ton better. Fewer penalties. Offense was a mixed bag. All in all much better than expected. They worked hard over the bye. We might see a win or two before the end of the year.

I won't rehash the blown calls. You all saw it. They were backbreakers and everything that followed was kind of irrelevant. But IF we play like that ROS, I think we go bowling. There are at least five weaker opponents than Nebraska left on the schedule and the refs aren't going to bail out our opponent every week.

The real story is that our staff completely reworked this team over the break with new personnel and new schemes and about 90% of it worked. That doesn't happen here. It's actually the most encouraging Illini result in a decade. But it might be sometime next week before that sinks in. Right now I just want to kick in my television.

Maybe you don't care, but as someone who has had season tickets for years and has a 6 hour round trip, I certainly do. This game gives me hope that the season isn't lost.

Good effort on both sides of the ball, but the offense did nothing in the 2nd half. You can tell the staff is desperate to get playmakers out there, which is why they have worked so hard to find ways to get the ball into the hands of Corbin. Can't wait for Smalling to get here.

I wouldn't be shocked if Keyshawn transfers after this year. Lots of talent, but if he's not putting in the effort then maybe he is better off elsewhere. I can see now why we are bringing in two RBs with this class.

In a weird way, it's really nice to blame the refs. That means the game was close enough to care about their calls.

Hopefully Phillips is okay.

Just surprised that are DL (4-5 players) are clearly at a higher level than anybody else on the team. Who was are DL recruiter, they did a good job.

Hope that McGee can recruit offensive players like he did at Louisville. I would prefer a quick rebuild, time to get some quality transfers.

We need a 5th year transfer at QB, that's for sure. Crouch is a better fit for McGee's offense, but I cringe at the thought of him taking a lot of snaps next year. George Jr. is not the answer and Thomas is a massive project that won't get anywhere near the field as a QB next year.

Smalling and Green could be instant impact players if someone can throw the ball to them.

The defense is going to be a gigantic mess next year.

A couple points, overall encouraged by the improvement I saw from 2 weeks ago.

1. We were in a really good spot in the 3rd quarter. Their offense wasn't effective and we just needed to get the ball back. The horse collar tackle and the phantom pass interference calls gave new life to Nebraska. Our defense looked winded after being on the field for so long.

2. I don't agree with Lovie's decision to punt the ball on that 4th and 1 with 3 minutes left in the game. Our defense was tired at that point and even if we get a 3 and out, we'll be backed up near our goal line with no time outs remaining. Too conservative for my taste.

3. Julian Jones looks like a stud. Make a couple nice plays today and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for the rest of the season.

4. I would love to know what happens to Keyshawn from this point on. Does he see the field next week? Is sitting him this week just sending him a message or is he truly number 3 on the depth chart?

5. None of our wide receivers aside from Turner made a difference today. That won't change this season simply because due to the lack of talent. We will see a nice infusion of talent next season, which should help us be more dangerous on offense.

6. We need to be able to convert in the red zone with touchdowns. The delay of game penalty by Crouch was HUGE as we were driving at that point and a touchdown there could've put us up 14-10 at that point. Not sure why Lovie didn't call a timeout at that point since we still had 3 remaining. Definitely worth calling one there to not move back 5 yards.

If anyone wants to get re-angry at the refs about their blown call, go to Robert's twitter from Illiniboard. He has some nice, small videos and snap shots of just how blown that call was.

I'm more encouraged than discouraged by this game.

Purdue, Rutgers, Iowa and Northwestern are all winnable.

Hopefully we can see more improvement as the year goes on.
