Back In Robinson!
I hate talking about the refs... But man that was bad... That stupid drive that won the game was stopped on multiple occasions... Our defense was gassed after that. Nebraska kiss your lucky stars.... You were gifted a game. Good job Illinois, the score does not reflect the game that was played at all.

I am with you right here. That pass interference was BS and that ended that drive. Gift 1. That guy did not make it to the first down, period. I can't believe they watched that on replay and still got it wrong. He was sitting on his but 2 foot From the 1st down marker, the ref saw it, marked it, but somehow changed it to were he laid down, gift 2. That was game, or D was shot after that as you would expect. BS!

The funny thing is that you can't call it a home field call. If we played that game at our house the ref's would screw us anyway. LOL

Lol, right?! I haven't seriously followed the Illini nearly as long as many on this board, but I can't help but feel we ALWAYS get the short end of the stick in situations like this.

I don't think Iowa or NW have QBs that scare me. Look for good things rest of season. Good job team and Lovie. Proud of youre fight!

Love the effort, lot better than wmu. Proud and faithful lovie will win these games in a few years. On the refs, last year I chatted with Desmond Howard while he was getting his haircut before a GameDay show. He was very skeptical on the state of officiating. How plays that are reviewed still are not called right especially targeting. I think he was on to something, that clear fumble by zeke elliot last year widened my eyes and this game makes me something need fixing. Just some thoughts, now let's beat purdue.

The more I think about it, the better I feel about this team. It looks like UNC is the real deal after beating FSU. And Western Michigan is a VERY good team. We just about beat the #15 team in the nation at their house on homecoming weekend. And we actually improved during our bye week. We still have a long way to go as a program, but I feel optimistic about the future. On a side note, any news on Philipps injury?

I thought Lunt was terrific. Much better at sticking with the play and being a little more aggressive.
That said, I do like putting Crouch in deep in the red zone. Don't need Lunt's arm, and add a new running threat.
As gashed as we were getting on D, thought we had to go for it on fourth and one.

Just a few of my takes from today's game:
1. Obviously the coaches and players put in a lot of good work in the two weeks off.
2. Illinois has to be the worst fourth quarter team in the country.
3. This game really turned on two plays: the ridiculous horse collar by Smoot and the horrible spot by the officials by the goal line.
4. The benching of Vaughn is well-deserved and very "NFL" like-if you're not producing, next man up. I doubt the last couple coaches would have made that move this early in the season.
5. Thought putting Crouch in the game in the redone made no sense-the offense was clicking at that point in the game.
6. Boils down to not enough offense again. It was terrible in the second half. Lack of possession time resulted in defense getting gassed. You need to put up over twenty points to have a chance.
7. Did like the plays with Lunt rolling out. Moving the pocket helps the protection and surprised Nebraska.
8. I thought two or three wins would be tops after week 3. If improvement continues I think they should have a chance in most of the remaining games except for Wisconsin and Michigan. Michigan St. is apparently way down this season. Really need to beat Purdue and Rutgers these next two games.

Don't know if you guys remember but that horrible spot reminded me of another bad spot for the illini against Fresno St. on the road about five years ago on a Nathan S. sneak when Illinois was trying to salt the game away.

I'm more encouraged than discouraged by this game.

Purdue, Rutgers, Iowa and Northwestern are all winnable.

Hopefully we can see more improvement as the year goes on.

And Minnesota. I don't expect to win all 5 and go to a bowl, but those are all games that we have a chance to win.

Much better game all the way around. Still some undisciplined penalties that cost us and the refs were obviously an embarrassment.

Our D-Line was the disruptive force we expected and I thought our pass coverage was pretty decent. Have to credit Armstrong who threaded the needle several times and the Nebraska receivers made tough catches in traffic.

This staff can coach. Great game plan on both sides of ball. With an upgrade in talent we will be a force.

Absolutely loved the changes the professional coaching staff made going into the second quarter of the season. Go 2-1 this quarter and we are back to .500 for the season.

First game in my lifetime that we weren't embarrassed in Lincoln, NE. Baby steps. :thumb:

I'm as optimistic and patient as anybody on this board. As you review the depth chart many of our 1st and 2nd stringers are SRs. The remaining underclassmen are not impact players for the most part, possibly with the exception of our running game (Vaughn, Foster, Corbin, Nation). I'm for long-term solutions, but we really need an influx of veteran talent to allow the underclassmen and recruits to develop.

100% agree

If we play like this the rest of the year we will beat Purdue, Rutgers and Minny.

We will be in it to the end against NW, Iowa, MSU needing 2 of 3 to bowl.

All three are within our range. It seems like the gap between Wisconsin and the rest of the west is pretty substantial. Can't wait until people are saying that about us.
