Give credit where it is due. Team's offense and defense looked sharp, still some things to clean up. Need to make more wide open buckets and Hill still over dribbles and loses the ball. He was effective when he can drive or pull up with a shot, but when he stalls with his dribble it often leads to turnovers.

Yeah, and when he stalls, it seems like the ball always winds up behind him somehow. Am I the only one who thinks that?

Defense was certainly good -- 0.83 PPP allowed against NU this season, worse for the rest of the slate (1.09), but I don't really think our offense looked super sharp. It is improving, and certainly is better with TJL on the floor, but we went through multiple long droughts again, and were barely over 1 PPP. Our % of attempts coming from the midrange is also still a little higher than I'd like, sitting somewhere in 30-36% range depending on the minimum distance you use for a midrange shot.

lol, I like it

Hey, we swept the Cats! And the players are still giving it 110% out there, which is fun. I'm glad things clicked and I'm glad Northwestern played like Northwestern.

Except there is no such thing as 110%. lol :)

Yep! And they said I was bonkers when I suggested TJL could be a serviceable defender as a freshman :thumb:

And what was really impressive is how much he played in the 1st half with the 2 fouls. Showed real maturity beyond his actual age/experience.

I'm falling in (basketball) love with this kid.

If Illinois wins out, and wins one game in the tournament, consider them a lock. Just not enough teams with a better resume.

He's fun to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with another PG in the backcourt with him next year (Frazier).

I think four more in a row gets us in the bubble talk again, but I fear the talk is of the first or last four out variety. Five more wins would almost certainly include a ranked team as our fifth victim. Only then would I be comfortable about our chances.

It's kinda weird that 2 wins against Northwestern are considered our signature wins of the season (along with VCU). What a weird season this has been.

For our chances, we have to win out then play to the finals in the BTT to even be considered, IMO. One rung at a time. We're on rung 3, Nebraska. Lordy do we need that one.

I'd say depends who we could beat to get to Friday AND who we play/how we play that day.

The problem is that if we win out the regular season, then our seed will be high enough that we can only get a 9 to 14 seed on Thursday. I don't think there will be a top 50 team in the 9 to 14 slots for us to play on Thursday.

Lock?

Win out and win 2 in the BTT and I'll still be holding my breathe come SS.

Given that USA Today already has in First Four Out territory, I have to think that winning out plus one in the BTT gives us a good chance of dancing. Win out plus two in the BTT and you shouldn't have to hold your breath.
