to finish out the class with Trent and DaWill who would of helped us more, Mark Snith and Greg Eboigbodin or Javon Pickett and JT

to me its a no brainer, Smith way way ahead of Pickett, and Greg-E is a kid who should just keep getting better, vs JT who didn't even want to be in collage more then a year

The answer is Mark Smith alone > the other 3 together.

Recruiting-wise, Smith and Tilmon, and would be difficult to rationalize otherwise.

That wasn't an option he gave, you heathen!

But I would also pick that combo :). The combo I would not pick would be Groce/Smith/Tilmon. Give me Underwood/Smith/Whoever all day.

Mark Smith and Greg Eboigbodin or Javon Pickett and JT

I suppose it depends on how much faith you put in rankings. Using rsci, you've got Pickett and Eboigbodin both unranked, and (39) Tilmon well ahead of (88) Smith.

For me personally, I like Eboigbodin's ceiling in BU's system more than most. He's got a different skillset from JT, so tough to compare them. JT looks like a true post player. But motor, character, and intangibles have been questioned. Honestly, If I never looked at rankings, I'd be happy with Eboigbodin. I don't think anyone likes to see a guy (JT) drop 20 spots in the rankings, unless it's because he's injured or has a reason he hasn't been in front of the rankings guys. If JT puts it together, he should have a higher ceiling. but it's so important for bigs to either have a chip on their shoulder, or have a high motor, I wonder how JT's career will play out.

I'm fearful that Smith's been over-hyped. He looks like a legit top-100 guy, but I I'm not sure where his ceiling is. The comparison's to Deron strike me as very premature. His shot looks great, and he's a big body. He's got an inside-out game, and RANGE. Love that. Good motor, leader, competitor, etc. I just think he's got more development ahead of him before he's going to be talked about as an all conference type of guy.

Overall, If I was given the choice straight up, (crossing my fingers Greg commits,) I'd take our guys.

didn't TA commit as a freshman?

edit: december of his sophomore year assuming this link is accurate. 2 1/2 years is pretty close though.

This is accruate, during the season his Sophomore year. Kid had an unbelievable Freshman season, I was a senior and he was a freshman at Mt. Carmel. He took over my starting spot lol, great kid and we remain good friends to this day.

JT is a guy with all the physical upside but not look very smart with basketball and has a suspicious attitude. His HS tape is primarily dunks over smaller guys which will not be seen much in college basketball. JP will be warming the bench for at least 2 years. If we get Ayo/Finke, he will warm the bench for 4 years.

MS will make impact immediately. GE might be the least talented of the 4, but he will get minutes from frosh year and more experienced than other coming bigs from year 2, which is important.

I will pick MS+GE

I can't help but sing "Love the one your with" here, but hands down MS+GE!

Eboigbodin and Smith 2 on 2 versus Tilmon and Pickett? I would take the two who chose Illinois.

Greg Ebo > Javon Pickett.

Mark Smith v Jeremiah Tilmon, though...IMO Mark Smith gets the nod because
A) a big, do-it-all PG is so important in todays game and specifically Underwood's system.
B) MSU and Kentucy wanted him too.

Happy with current class. Like to save rest of scholarships for 2018. Transfers ok as they will not affect future offers. Like to see Ayo, THT, DeSousa for 2018.

Can't wait until the inevitable video from Rob where he asks literally every human in Champaign if Greg Ebo will redshirt..

Didn't read the previous pages so my apologies if already posted, but this Payton offer may be with bigger attachment. Sounds like Adam Miller is headed to Bloomington next year. Bloomington is going to be stacked and can't hurt that the 2 now with offers will be playing together.

Bloomington to C/U pipeline, go!

Adam Miller to Bloomington would be a win for us. Were rumors he was looking at some of the top Chicago programs as well (although I don't know how much truth there was in that). Best if he stays away from that scene, even with Chin on staff.

Bloomington is suddenly becoming a really important area for us with Okoro, Payton, and now potentially Miller. I can't remember the last time the Bloomington area had that kind of talent.

I'd take Tilmon over Mark Smith primarily due to need. I also disregard all the motor, "fit", and basketball IQ arguments that have suddenly popped up now that Tilmon is no longer an Illini. I can't think of a single basketball skill that I would confidently say Ebo is better at compared to JT. I believe both Smith and Tilmon will be really good players in college but given our current roster makeup Tilmon would have filled a bigger need for us.

I would give Greg, quickness/speed, and ball handling over JT. I think the Biggest upside to Greg over JT is the fact JT wants to be a 1 and done vs Greg-E knows he needs to do a lot of work to get better. So you have a kid who for 4 years is going to try to make himself a better play vs a kid who is wanting to be gone asap. I do agree thought that JT would of been the biggest help for 2017, but for 3 or 4 years Smith is the better get. Just how I see it

Mute point cause Tilmon isn't here and really never wanted to be here. Give me people like Smith who want to be an Illini!!!

I don't think I ever remember Tilmon saying he wants to be a one and done. Even if he did that would have benefited us. If JT came here, had a nice season, and then left for the NBA Our staff could sell that to the highly regarded 18's and 19's we're recruiting. That's just another way to look at it I guess.
