Gary Andersen and Oregon State have parted ways.

and Andersen is ripping up the contract and not asking for another dime. You wonder if there is more to the story or if he just bit off way more than he could chew there and wanted out as bad as they wanted him out .

Strange indeed for a coach to get fired in NCAAF after 5 weeks .
Tough for recruiting. One must figure most commits are going to cut loose as well

Walking away from $12 mil. Wow.

Lol, you never know I guess. But, even if he had to give the wifey half that, he's still got a nice chunk of pocket change there. :D

The consensus on the Oregon State board is that he is just doing the noble thing and walking away. Sure, whatever.

Bielema to Nebraska? Assuming Frost wants to stay in Florida, bielema is a B1G guy (in many ways!), power running (which Nebraska wants) and he was highly successful at Wisky (knows how to win in the B1G). Oh and he will be fired from Arkansas if he doesn't leave first.

Assuming Frost wants to stay in Florida is a broad stroke. He has done an amazing job at UCF (I can't wait to see UCF-USF at end of the year), but these coaches all aspire to Power 5 status and payroll. His star will never shine any brighter than it is right now. UCF is just an afterthought (and USF, too) that those programs get no talk on local sorts radio in Orlando or Tampa. None.

However, Frost is really smart and may not want to go back to his alma mater, because the landscape of the game has changed greatly since he committed there as a high school senior.

Frost may get to stay is Florida, just up the road in Gainesville, where McElwain isn't making friends and influencing people. I doubt Frost goes to Mizzou, if that job opens up, but there will be a few more Power 5 jobs available soon.

That's what I was thinking: Frost makes a move to the Power 5 without leaving the state of Florida. Would Nebraska hire Bielema?

They’d be more likely to hire Pelini back before they’d hire Bielema. He’s going to need some major career rehab before he gets another P5 job I’d think. Arkansas isn’t even competitive anymore.

Then again they hired Mike Riley. Anything is possible unless the new AD is a genius.

As someone who follows Oregon St. (I went there for a year), it was surprising that he decided to leave. Most felt that he'd be there through at least next year as it seemed unlikely that they'd buy out that much of his contract. To have him leave without having to pay a buyout was huge. Team had taken a step backward (and they weren't that good to begin with) and there were reports of infighting among the assistants. Be interesting to see who they can lure there. Heck looks like Riley will be available if they want to try the "third times a charm" route.

My first instinct is to agree with this. But I'm going to ask my buddy who is a Nebraska grad and diehard Husker fan what he thinks of Leach. I know that most UNL fans are traditionalists, but I'm curious to see what his response is to the Leach suggestion. :thumb:

I'm not sure that he'd fit Nebraska either...But Nebraska is hungry for success. I think from that standpoint would be a good pickup.

I was listening to espn radio talking about Harbaugh. They were saying that what he is doing cannot be measured in wins and losses this year. He’s laying the foundation, building the talent and the wins will eventually come. Then they said ‘who are you going to get better?’ You could hope to find the next great coach from the lower level but very few of them is the answer. Thinking of our situation, let’s realize again that getting Lovie here was a big big move for Illinois. He is building a foundation and in time, he will build a winner. When I say winner I mean a team that can win the Big Ten but not really a national title. Mimic what MSU,Wisky and others have done. The question again is ‘who are you going to get better?’

everyone down here in central Florida is calling for his head...I believe it will happen and they'll pony up the buyout bucks

It's not Carousel in the strictest sense, but my god - Matt Campbell has Iowa State beating the likes of Oklahoma and TCU. When we hired Beckman, Toledo must have been muttering under their breath "this is AMAZING."

I remember discussions on this board when Beckman was hired that Campbell was the brains of the operation. That really seems like it was the case, unfortunately.

Will be interesting to see if he moves on to a higher profile program after this year.

Yep. When we couldn't bring Campbell along with Beckman, I remember several people mentioning even then that this was going to bite us in the ***.

Man, I still look back at that Beckman hire with anger. Even at the time, I thought it was a terrible hire. Anyway......

McElwain out as Florida coach

Dan Mullen will be the likely frontrunner for the job, though no doubt UF fans will be pining for Bob Stoops.

Could be interesting if Florida goes for a Chip Kelly or a Les Miles.

Scott Frost could have an interesting decision to make: go to your alma mater (who as a program has really lost its luster since the Osborne days), or go to Florida which has better access to recruits.
