Only faced them once this year - a 3-0 loss on the road. Definitely a winnable match though.

Illinois to play Michigan State, is that winnable?

They weren't as highly ranked as Washington going into the tournament, but they did sweep us in East Lansing the one time we played them this season. Definitely winnable but it'll take another very strong effort.

It's winnable, but we will have to play a lot better than we did against them last month. Should be a great match.

Definitely, but we have been playing better since that match. I'm greedy now for one more round, but the tournament and season are already a success.

Lost in 3 at MSU and then proceeded to lose to scUM and Wisconsin. Illini have won 5 straight, including a win against Minnesota. We are playing much better now than we were last month. Should be a tough match but a winnable match. :chief:

Michigan State is very good. Illinois is playing well. It should be a great match!

The good thing is, Michigan State loses a lot after this season, while Illinois has everyone but Brandi Donnelly back, as well as lots of good freshmen and sophomores who will probably get better.

Whether or not Illinois wins this next match, the future looks very bright. The present is pretty good, too.

That was one of our worst hitting matches all B1G season. No one hit especially well. We went to Beth Prince too much as Quade, Cooney and Omazic were struggling a bit. Might have been Donnelly's 2nd or 3rd match back after injury. I think MSU was ranked about 8th at the time.

We are playing much better and Cooney especially has been a much more consistent threat to balance out the offense, which helps Quade, Prince and Bastianelli/Omazic.

Bailey had a great game for them in Lansing. OH who's only 5-10!

Their senior setter is from Naperville. We need to send her home courtesy of her home state school! LOL!!!

Should be a good match!

I am sure that they are thinking about how good they are this year and are not worried about how good they are going to be next year. They have turned themselves into a good team this year and are very capable of winning Friday. Go Illini!

To many hitting errors the first set. Played, and hit, much better the 2nd set and won 25-18.

MSU has a couple monster jump servers. If we can continue to keep them from going on long runs, we've got a good shot to win this. I'm thinking we're in for another 5-setter.

Lost 4th set 29-27. Was up one, either 25-24 or 26-25 and had the serve. Unfortunately we served it out of bounds, huge mistake.

Mich. St. grads

Michigan State players who graduate this year: Bailey, Minarick, Tompkins, Kranda, Garvelink and Toliver. Those players had 62 of Mich. State's 62 kills, 9 of 9 service aces, and 8 of 8 blocks. I would expect a big drop off from them next year.

Wow at those stats. Penn State also loses a ton after this season, so we really have a chance to be near the top of the Big Ten next year.

Even though we made it farther than expected in the tournament, that match was still kinda disappointing because we definitely could have won. A couple silly mistakes at the end of the tight 4th set (service error, hitting a ball that would have been out) were what did us in. Had it gone to a 5th, I would've really liked our chances based on our recent history. At least there's a lot to be optimistic about going forward.

Penn State will reload, like they always do. Don't look for them to be down much. It will be another crowded and tough B1G next season as well, but Illinois will be a lot stronger and more seasoned next year.

Rose has been coaching at PSU for 78 years. You would think that he would be looking to step down at some point.

There are a lot of Big time volleyball coaches in the B1G. Nebraska, Minny, PSU... Lots of national team experience and lots of competition for the top recruits.

I think we've got an up and comer with Tamas. Should be getting on a good role with this program!

We need to get a setter that can replace Poulter after next season. She is a great player and will probably have a HUGE season next year. We need someone who can come in and pick up from (close to) where she will leave off after next year. She does so much more than "just set"... I agree that Coach Tamas is an "up and comer". We will build on this "surprise" Sweet 16 finish and We Will Win!

Diana Brown is a great player. Will be interesting to see what they do with her next year. I'm sure she'll see the floor somehow. I think she's that versatile. They also have one of Tyanna Omazic's teammates coming in as well.

And a 2019 commit that was national sophomore of the year last season...

Illini volleyball returns a lot of players for 2018 but lose Brandi Donnely their libero. Who replace her at this important spot? Also saw on Twitter that a player has transferred to Mizzou. May have been a grad transfer but I don't know for sure.
