I stated quite awhile ago, I thought we would ultimately have a 4 man class, still do...don't think Matic goes anywhere unless it is back to Europe.

But if that were to happen, and I believe the likelihood is very high that Tejon is a given at this point, Kipper might make sense as well. That would get us to a 5-6 man class available. I think we would still go 4 and roll 2 for 2019 though.:chief:
TeJohn seems to be in some major trouble. Matic is not Big Ten calibre, barely D1 calibre so I could see those 2 leave, but why would anyone else? Kipper is not transferring a 2nd time. Besides we need his strength.

The biggest issue is who are we going too get to take their place. If we had already landed Nolley and THT and wanted another big or 2 that would make sense, but as it sits now who are these 3 or 4 guys worth a scholarship that will be coming in?

Bringing in more guys not worthy of a scholarship is not a solution. It actually makes things worse. At least the guys we've currently go will have a year experience in the system.

I agree, but I would definitely jump at the chance to take Ayo/Herard/Trice/Taylor...5*, Former 5*, 2 Top 75 Juco players who have already been scouted by the staff.:chief:

Guess we have to revisit this...lol, https://twitter.com/Schnider_herard/status/954774206620807169

Herard chose Maryland. Can Trice score from more than 1 inch out?

It is hard for a juco to get in to a Big Ten team.

To me the best case scenario as of now is Ayo, Tevian Jones, Josh Cunningham as a 5th year transfer, quality 5th year C.

I would take that also, but with exception of Ayo....Jones shows "warm" on CB predictions, not really sold on him choosing us...and Cunningham may be all speculation with no substance? None of know, but sure that would be as good if not better....

Grad transfer bigs will be available next spring, but likely not many will be impact bigs. Will need to get one of those top tier big men. I think we are looking at one transfer, happens every year.

Ideally I like Ayo, freshmen SF(Tevian), grad transfer big, and transfer big with 2-3 years eligibility.

Can someone help me understand where all these open scholarship slots supposedly are at? We lose Alstork after this season, but his scholarship slot gets filled by Ayo. That leaves one open scholarship, which we hope to fill with a forward or center. How are other posters coming up with us having 4, 5, 6 open slots to fill next year? Is it just transfer speculation about TJL, Leron, and/or Finke leaving next year?

We have eleven scholarship players this season. Swap Alstork for Ayo and we still have two more rides to give. If players leave, we will have more. I have no idea if any players will leave, but if TJL gets no more tick this season, it is hard to imagine him staying.

Even without transfers, we still have two open scholarships for next year. Couple of transfers, which is not unusual, and we have four.

This is only the case if you assume that you will fill the spot with a better prospect the next year, otherwise not taking the long-shot prospect is worse. Not the worst idea to fill the roster and Crean those that don’t pan out.

That may work for the occasional 1 or 2 players but not for mass injection of bodies that likely won’t pan out

2020 C 6’11 Yves Nkomba will visit Illinois tonight
https://twitter.com/IL_IrishMBB/status/955465051724447744

Nkomba is at Georgetown, Il about 45 miles to the east of UI on the 74
Okoro is in Normal, Il about 50 miles to the west of UI on the 74

Antigua and BU should be having lunch with these two once a week. We keep complaining about not landing a big and we have two very good ones that could solidify that position for the future at our doorstep.

Just for reference this kid is a backup/JV player on a small school team. Major project here, but definitely worth following.

Well right now things are slow....and the near future....slow, so at least we can track the progress and improvements against inferior opponents and wait to hear what the AAU circuit brings out in him?:chief:

We do have what 3 years right...lol

He doesn't even play on a bad Youngstown State team

Scouring, that is what the coaches will have to do. Not many frontcourt guys to come in and immediate help for next year. What do you think happens if Finke leaves?

Still wish we would offer the Marlon Taylor kid from Panola!:chief:

Then you lose or go small and do a 40 minutes of hell plan. However, bringing in someone that is no good isn't going to help anything.

My biggest fear is all of this losing sends Liddell to Missouri. He's vitally important to the future of this program. Liddell and Okoro are guys that will change this program, not random tall guy #12 from BFE State.

I agree bad players wont help, all I am alluding to is the that Bigs will be difficult to come by, if Finke leaves and god forbid we don't have anyone including EJ who is a wing/pf or Okoro or another to "groom", then where will we be? Besides who really knows if they are any good?

Taylor is already been recruited, just not offered, this other kid who knows. He does have some skills per video?

Yes the biggest fear would be we lose EJ or Okoro or both.:chief:

Well, Mizzou isn't exactly setting the world alight with their success, either. There's a real chance they're in the NIT this year. And next year, they lose their top two scorers (Robertson and Barnett).

If EJ is making his decision on the basis of who's better right now, I guess it's Mizzou. But by the time he commits -- say, a year from now -- I suspect Illinois and Mizzou will be in different places.
If I'm Underwood I'm telling EJ, they will have porter and tilmon in their front court, we will have ebo and kipper. You'll start here. We've got some great guards, they're hurting for guards. The choice is easy my friend.

Hey the Pharaohs are underrated this year. Or are they the Fightin Scarabs?? Cannot recall.

It's Pharaohs
