What's amazing for me is how, aside from the 'olympic sports', 2003-2004 somehow felt worse by April. Football was the sideshow for tailgating and the Marching Illini, Self left the men's team, who lost one at home and had a crushing loss to Duke in the S16, and the women were an afterthought - well behind the likes of wrestling and club hockey.

FB : 0-9
MBB : 13-3
WBB : 4-12
Combined BigTen record : 17-24

This year is one for perspective, for sure.

Yes, we took a hard left turn for the worse here... http://www.stltoday.com/sports/coll...cle_7a4ccfe8-c466-11e0-9f3f-001a4bcf6878.html

& the perennial mess lingers to this day even after righting the course on this day...

Don't know about WBB, but 98/99 was pretty close to this bad...

3-13 in MBB and 2-6 in football. We tend to forget about that year because both programs turned it around immediately afterward, with Turner having his brief run of respectability and MBB going into one of the greatest eras of the program's history.

Pretty sure in the men's revenue sports, it almost couldn't possibly get worse. So yes, definitely as bad as it gets.

Not even close, that was my junior year.

Basketball was coming off a conference season championship the prior year and everyone knew we were in for a rebuilding year but had talent coming in. While they didn’t win a lot of games, they were competitive. Plus they fought to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament.

Football was winless the year before that, so the 2-6 conference record was an improvement and there was some hope, which came to fruition the next two years with MicronPC Bowl and Sugar Bowl.

Unfortunately, we are no where close to that level today.

Wrestling finished 8th in the B10 tourney. Martinez graduates this year and Mark Perry left for Iowa last summer. Program is on a downward trajectory.

I don't remember the records, but 1966-67-68 were pretty bad - due to the slush fund scandal.... I think Harv Schmidt was 1-9... Gary Moeller's 0-0 tie against Northwestern in '78 was pretty much had the entire university up in arms... but maybe across the board, this has been the worst...

Having sat in the Shoe for that 0-0 game, I still think this year is the bottom of the barrel. Nowhere to go but upwards.

I know someone in Cincinnati, and he was friends with a couple of people in the AD at UC. They weren't unhappy to see Thomas leave for Illinois. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way there as well.
