Anyone else wondering the meaning behind, "and Illinois will not renew my scholarship"? Maybe I'm thinking too hard about it, but I'm reading that to say that Illinois moved on from him.

After four years a University is not obligated to renew your scholarship for an additional year. I think it's Brad saying "thanks for your dedication, but we are moving forward."

I have a feeling this staff attempted the culture change with the guys who were here and are now doing everything in their power to get the right guys in the program to execute the system and attitude required for a dominate program.

I think it's a subtle dig at Underwood but I'm not sure why Finke would have been pressured to leave when our front court is as thin as it is. I could be over thinking it too..

This makes AJ Tejon and Kipper the only Groce era players left on roster.

Nice statement by Finke. Wish him success - cool if he and his brother can play together at GCU.

The disappointing part of this and Black transferring is that the fans don't get the chance to say good-bye. I think both would receive rousing ovations.....

Ouch. It was expected, but it's certainly not good when you've lost 80% of your frontcourt scoring from the past season. Hope Spicy G and Kipper and Matic (if he stays) really develop this offseason and that the new bigs can really make some difference early on.

Need a Hinson, Trice, or Giorgi, pretty badly now.

Sad to see Finke go I always liked him. Wonder if he will transfer to where Tim is going to be next year.

Looks like this opens up Giorgi's spot to take and commit hopefully at the end of his visit.

I think we'll be seeing Giorgi commit over the next 24 hours.

I was just about to say the same thing. I saw a nice heartfelt statement until I came to that. I have heard about scholarships being on a year by year basis as far as being renewed. I was also thinking about the transfer process. I feel like I have forgotten but I thought you had to get a Masters in a subject that your current school doesn't offer.

I have mixed feelings about this. I do feel like we need bigs with more of a killer instinct and strength than what Finke has historically shown, but on the other hand, we also really need bigs in general and he was a legit threat when he was knocking down threes.

Best of luck to him.

Agree. Wish there was some way to pay tribute other than this note.
Many thanks to both for four years of commitment.

Sincerely hope it was not us pulling any thing from him and that it was his decision.

So how do I break the news to my daughter that her favorite player is no longer a current Illini...

This make me sad. Finke was finally going to be able to slide into his natural 4 spot with Ebo in the middle. He'd have less responsibility for rebounding/defense, and he's always had a green light as shooter

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Gotta get the players that fit your personality and culture. Frank Martin went from 14-18 (4-14) in his first year at South Carolina to the Final Four in year 5.

It’s not fun, but it’s what has to happen in this sort of rebuild. This was never going to be Weber coaching Self’s recruits to a title game. I’m excited that Underwood is starting to put together his kind of roster.
