I wonder what happened with him last year. He was getting some time and looking like working to being a starter but nothing as a junior?

A nice appetizer before tomorrow. Will add some much needed depth to the WR position next season. Didn't put up amazing stats or anything, but then he was competing against some pretty decent talent at USC, and they recruited him out of HS, so that says something.

Looks like he is another blue shirt.

He joins Illinois as a blueshirt, meaning he could not take an official visit nor receive a home visit from Illinois. He said he will arrive at Illinois in May or June but will not be on scholarship until practice begins. His scholarship -- as well as grad-transfer quarterback A.J. Bush and Danville kicker Caleb Griffin -- will count toward one of the 25 scholarship spots the NCAA allows Illinois to use in the Class of 2019.

WR position looking better. Hope all is ok with Dorsey and Dudek returns to form. The other grad transfer WR from the smaller college looks good to.

Greene update

I hate to make my first post on here something that is somewhat bad news for the host fan base but Jalen Greene is currently enrolled at Utah State and has been practicing with the team for about a week now.

The reason I come here is to ask if anyone on your end knows what happened? Nothing official has been announced by USU and there have been no news articles or press releases regarding this. During some recent booster events, the Aggie coaching staff has made mention that there is a grad transfer WR on campus that was highly sought after but has not mentioned Greene by name. All they would offer is that the player had a specific agenda he went over with each school he visited and was adamant that they meet his criteria. Supposedly the items on his agenda were the ability for immediate playing time, quality of the QB for 2018-19, and the status of the returning OL.

Would any of the list above be an area of concern for the Illlini? Or did your coaching staff perhaps recruit over Greene causing him to look elsewhere? Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated - otherwise it appears fans of both schools are in the dark about this one.

Welcome. We don't shoot the messenger here...at least most of us. Yes, bad news and no clue what transpired.

I'm going to go on a limb, since he was blue shirting (scholly applied to 2019 recruiting class), maybe the staff made the tough decision of reopening the scholarship for this current high school class?

Just a thought with scholarships being pretty scarce for this class. :noidea:

Weird. I just did a google search and found the utah state message board talking about him coming there. People on there were asking for a link as well but nobody had provided one. The guy's a mystery.

My gut reaction is that he took a look around and decided that he didn't want ot spend his last year as "depth." So he just shows up at another school. I wonder how clued in out staff was that he was playing with someone else's toys.

Honestly, I take this to be a bad sign on our QB situation. Particularly, because one of his conditions was a competent quarterback. Obviously, we have 3 true freshmen and 1 true sophomore. I didn't expect much at QB, but seeing a transfer receiver go back on his offer points me to a concern that our QBs still have to develop more.

It’s probably true our QB’s need to develop more but he didn’t already know that when he committed?
