Is that the same chair that Finke held scoreless??

Yes , I do remember that discussion but I've since seen unconfirmed reports (dont remember where) that he was taking classes this summer with the intention of graduating in August. True or not, who knows. If it's not true of course the point is moot. If true, he could be a possibility however remote.
Agreed, if it somehow were to happen, I think he would be a difference maker for this team as currently constructed.

There is a whole lot of hand-wringing on here about how we are recruiting bigs, but to be honest, I sort of like the approach we are using given the circumstance. Clearly we can't just go grab a game-ready big man right now, both due to the lateness in the recruiting cycle and our own depleted standing in the college basketball world.

It seems to me that the strategy is actually one of recruiting a fairly large number of high potential but extremely raw big men with the hope that at least one or two will pan out. The ones that don't will likely transfer anyway, leaving those scholarships open for future recruits, and if one or two of the unheralded guys turns out to be a diamond in the rough, then this whole process would be considered a success, in my opinion. It's the equivalent of filling a couple of spots with a bunch of extra guys knowing that some of them simply won't pan out.

I thought this was a recruiting thread, not who can post the most ridiculous. Let's get back to the topic.

You didnt address any of the points I raised. Not even close. Went on a self serving rant instead.

Please provide a list of viable candidates. You seem to think there are legions of them just waiting for an invitation and the coaching staff is too ignorant or lazy to follow up on them.

It's ironic that you labelled my post as self serving when you are demanding I research the list of potential 5th year transfers and report back to you with a list - it sounds like that is extremely self serving for you. Apparently you wanted me to say Josh Cunningham?

I get it - you like using this board to debate if specific players would be good recruits the coaching staff should pursue, others like to debate recruiting strategy, others want to post pictures of chairs. I was clear I just want them to recruit a big with experience to fill a specific need. Just because posters are not behaving the way you want them to, doesn't mean they are wrong and you are right.

I believe the strategy is a solid, the ones that have committed chose to be apart of the team. They visited and I'm sure BU laid out his plan. Whether we like it or not, these are the guys he has chosen and will be he guys we need to root for the future. We would like to have another player to fill a slot, a big guy, hopefully we have some ideas. Again just getting a warm body is not best idea, but sometimes we might have to take another chance. See what happens , a good surprise would be great. Sure things are easy to count on.;):illinois:

Yeah I'm not buying any of that, especially Cunningham, until the ink is dry.

Cam here is the good news I was just told - if Cunningham gets enough credits this summer at Dayton he’s transferring to Illinois. That is the end goal with our staff.

Gosh I hope so

I understand this is a message board, which will inherently be rife with gossip and rumor mongering, but can we pump the breaks on the gossip and rumor mongering until somebody with something has some substance behind it?

In the almost six years I've been a member of the IL community, I think one poster (Josey Wales, maybe?) had "inside" information on recruiting like this that turned out to be true, and that was when DJ Williams committed via the newspaper the following day.

So while what you're pushing well may very well come into fruition, but with a relatively new account, I find it hard to take it seriously.

Cunningham stated he wouldn't have credits and would be back in Dayton not to be able to transfer. Not buying it, but anything can happen. It would be good for :illinois:

Any particular reason you underlined “given the circumstance” :D

Well if we just came off of a National Championship or something and were doing this shotgun approach, I probably wouldn't actually approve anymore.
