Not sure why Trice is a head-scratcher to people. Pretty clear that we passed, or at least didn't push very hard. We were the only P5 school recruiting him for a good while, but just kept dragging him along. If we had to do it over, given the transfers/Kane situation, I'm guessing we would have taken him, but hindsight is 20-20.

Just to put a bow on it, I don't think missing out on Trice is a big loss given that the staff is taking a longer-term prospective on the rebuild. Trice was/is a borderline high-major prospect. He would have given us rebounding and another body on defense, but not much else.

Pretty much. Great athlete & rebounder, but not much skill & questionable fit. I think Trice would have been an alright player for us, but you take 4 years of Higgs over 2 years of Trice without question. Higgs also happens to also be a plus athlete around the same size with a way higher offensive ceiling. Higgs could be a sneaky-good pickup.

Joel Goodson

respect my decision™
If you can get him now you've gotta take him now, but the problem you run into is putting so many guys in the same class at the same position that the chances of keeping them all together become slim.

Yes. To your second point: so be it.

If Whitney was on board (committed & signed), I'd be fine with holding off on Shannon. But he's not and he's hardly a mortal lock like some believe.

So, yeah, there's overlap. Shannon is a VG SF prospect and his trajectory has dramatically risen. Jones can't play 40 minutes. The players will sort it out.

Ohio State is at the top right now, I hear
I think tOSU will be the favorite until a blueblood inevitably moves. I really don't want to play against Liddell. tOSU always seems to have some incredibly talented 3/4 that torches us every year.

I know what you mean, but then you've always got more scholarships to fill, you're always scraping against the OV limit, you've always got a ton of freshmen on the team, you're always having to spend tons of time on the basics in practice, there are a variety of associated costs.

Underwood is right when he says that class balance is becoming yesterday's news in NCAA basketball, but for me, it's the programs that resist that tide the best that will have a leg up.

I think Underwood says what he thinks he has to say at times. In some cases it's probably the prudent thing. Then, he'll come out with blunt honesty. It's what he does which will count. Hasn't counted yet.

It would be better to have Shannon on team now. Could always redshirt for class balance. If he plays significant minutes, then we needed him now! Right now, we don’t actually know how players will perform, similar to the incoming recruits last year. Staff can also reallocate recruiting resources.

Agree on all of that. Even if Higgs doesn't have quite the athleticism that Trice appears to have, his length (7'1" wingspan), youth (4-5 years to play), and ability to hit 3's makes him a much more interesting prospect. Trice has 2 years to play and hadn't yet developed a jumpshot, didn't make free throws, and didn't have a back to the basket game either. I didn't know we'd lose Ebo too but at the time I really didn't want to take him.

If he would come now, take him now. I agree. Someone can redshirt if we really believe that much in their development. Otherwise the cream will rise to the top and kids that don't want to sit on the bench most of their careers will transfer out. Before this year we were already averaging 2.5 transfers per year if I remember correctly. That's the nature of today's game and that's what Underwood was referring to as mentioned in other posts.

I have watched Shannon a few times and he gets his points predominantly on drives and hustle plays in the paint (put backs, dunks, etc.). His outside shot has kind of a weird low shot put release. I like Shannon, he plays with a lot of energy and hustles all over the court. Some of his skills, however, like ballhandling and shooting, need improving.

How's his passing?

I think it is OK, but in all honesty, unless you are a PG it is often difficult for passing to stand out. Was there anything visibly lacking in his passing? No. Was there something really extraordinary in his passing? No.
