Good to see commits now! Is camp season over now or close to over? Saw somewhere that staff wants recruits to go to camps before committing. If they are pushing this, great for kid and great for building trust about best for kid. More exposure and new interest/ offers at camps. If still want to commit after camps and newer interest, that seems like a good time. Maybe that is why we are seeing recruit movement? I like the strategy if real. Let it play to this milestone, and still get recruits committed early, and stay committed.

Welcome Fabian & Camilo to Illini Nation. Wise choices by both student/athletes. I-L-L:shield:

The narrative is that fleck and minny are pulling better Illinois players than Illinois

1) I would not trade Williams + Beason for every single Illinois player than Minny/Fleck has signed in this class. Nor, I would hope, would you.

2) Illinois' average rating in this class so far is 87.00 on 247. This is very high for Illinois recruiting. The volume of commits is low-ish, but that's the way this class has to be (at least for now).

3) We are still in on a good amount of mid 3-star to mid 4-star talent.

All of that to say that your take, while true, is irrelevant. #ILLGang19 is doing just fine.

Speaking of the class, I just looked on 247, and saw that we are "Warm" with Jacob Bandes, and that he's a top target & top 100 player nationally. Anyone have any details on him? Not familiar with his name.

Eifler wasn't guaranteed an LB spot at UW this coming season is telling. We need to get deeper at all positions, it seems like that is where Lovie is heading. People need to be patient with the incremental improvements, I think the AD knows the position that the program and Lovie are in.

When we add Shammond, that number will take a jump up as well.

UDub (as they call it out here), got a commitment from a 5* kid from Cali, who is expected to play right away, so Eifler might not have seen the field as much as he obviously wants to. UW is pretty damn good and has strong defense's, so if we can get one of their second stringers, it might be a pretty good deal.... They played a good PSU team and barely lost in the Fiesta Bowl. They are expected to be the same this year (2017 10-2)...

His only other P5 offers were Iowa St and Syracuse. Does Nate Scheelhase have a connection to him? Maybe Dino Barbers does as well?

I’m surprised he is so lightly recruited and that we didn’t even throw an offer his way.

Maybe a fit thing? Grades? Overrated? Super hidden diamond in the rough?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am also curious as to why we knew nothing about him.

He is a top 1000 player and 9th best in Illinois, so Iam not sure diamond in the rough or underrated is the story. But I have no idea.

IC Catholic is in Elmhurst. Since Driscoll closed, IC's been on the rise. Good coaching staff. As to Saunders, no idea.

I saw him play twice last season so take this with a grain of salt. When he ran out on field he certainly looked the part, but against competition he should have absolutely dominated he was a non-factor. Again small sample size and anecdotal evidence but he did not dominate like he should have against the 3A competition.
