AAU Brawl

I hope Underwood hasn’t offered any of the idiots involved in the brawl in Atlanta. This definitely does not help AAU’s fight to survive with the NCAA trying to push them out of business.

Crazy videos indeed, however whether the referee was completely innocent or not, remains to be seen

But the coaches are adults and should keep their kids out of messes like that. That is on the coaching staff 100%. Sounds like after reading several articles that this team needs to learn how to lose with pride instead of jumping the refs mob action style. The coach should have confronted the ref if there was a problem

Was Illinois ever in serious competition for him? Seems like we don't do well in the QC area.

Chin was on him early, but we didn't stick around long. Given our depth at PG, and knowing that his recruitment was going to be a very high-level one, I think we decided to back off.

I would also add that the very very strong 2020 Illinois PG crop made it easier fo the Illinois staff to focus elsewhere.

Very true. Staff is going to go all out for Adam Miller and DJ Steward in 2020.

Big loss for them. From what I heard today, this would be like Whitney saying no thanks to us early on. My gut is telling me kids are loosing confidence in Fran in state here.

Wieskamp was a big get for Fran, but you're right. I've been hearing rumblings from fans and administration that Fran could be in trouble with another bad season this winter. Would love to see the Hawks tank!!!

We only play them once this year, right?

I too would enjoy watching them crumble. And correct, we only play them once this year (at Carver)

I'm with you. The QC has never seemed to be a strong area for recruiting. I think that part of the state, despite being in Illinois, seems so much more tied to Iowa. It's a shorter drive to the Iowa campus and media coverage matters too. The Iowa influence is stronger there. In Carton's case, that's obviously not the case- he's eliminated Iowa and Illinois so he's got his own reasons but historically I agree- the QC is a tough spot.

Good news for Fran is that he can at least rely on his own kids for recruiting wins.

Nimari Burnett, too.:thumb:

I know they're keeping tabs on him, but it'll be interesting to see how hard they press there. Probably depends on what we end up with in the '19 class.

As an Illini fan and fan of the HS game in IL, it's so frustrating how many promising HS players have left the state for prep schools elsewhere. It's becoming almost the norm for Top-100 level guys to go that route, leaving the state after their Freshman or Sophomore seasons.

It's become a situation where our staff has to travel to NJ/CA/AZ/KS to recruit some of the best players from IL. It's an underappreciated reason that the college game in the state has been down for a while.

Bruce Douglas is the last one I can remember...and that was a long, long time ago.

Bruce is from Quincy, but that is the Western Big Six, so same conference anyway. Randle was the big recent miss, although he went to Stanford, so not an Iowa issue. Generally a much better place for baseball than hoops.
