Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the jerseys.

Sorry I had to get busy for a day. So.....

Have some points I want to share about the new unis. I don't think I want to give too much away to ruin the school's launch, but, I'll share some intell.

1. Solid, cleaner look. While the zig zags had some hidden meaning that I, for one, appreciated, it was not a very sleek look. Done are the zig zags, no surprise, and in are a much cleaner look. Also no two tone coloring within the same letter finally. Also I believe it’s already been confirmed to be a stripe down the side and the Nike slimmer cut.

2. Brand consistency. The athletic apartment appears to be attempting to keep a the Illinois brand consistent and recognizable across all sports. These uniforms won't look too foreign to your eyes.

3. I don't think there have been any concepts shared on this board or anywhere else that represent what we are going to have.

4. There is one element, on one part, of one of our uniform sets that is the one thing I do not like. It seems a bit unnecessary, and like it belongs more to a certain school out west. I think when you see it, you are going to ask, "Really? Did we need that?" But honestly by the time we are playing B1G basketball we will all be pretty used to it.

5. New throwback. No idea if this means the end of the '89 throwbacks (I hope not). My pure speculation is that they may still use them due to their obvious popularity. But we are going to see another throwback to a fairly iconic / recognizable Illini era. They seem to be basically entirely accurate to the era. So if you look back at Illini uniforms through the years, you'll see what our guys will be wearing as a throwback.

To me, this sort of implies the new uniforms likely make more consistent use of the typeface seen on every other sport's jerseys (both lettering and numbering) and likely will feature a cleaner, bolder look (also in keeping with other sports' jerseys). If you think about football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer, they all make use of the same version of "Illinois" (except football) and they all pretty much keep the lettering and numbering the same color as one another. I would hope men's and women's basketball both move more in that direction.

Thanks for the update.

Re; #1 The wording has me concerned, "two tone coloring within the same letter". I hope you aren't implying that they will alternate colors I L L I N I or will do a FIGHTING ILLINI I'm probably just overthinking it.....

He's saying this is gone, which was pretty horrible.

If anything, that, to me, implies having "ILLINOIS" in one color and the number in another. I am not generally a huge fan of that, but I suppose it could be done to look okay. It worked for the (circa) '05 team, I suppose.

Sorry that was just meant to mean no more of the two tone ILLINOIS. All wording and numbers should all be the same color.

Thanks for the snippets. Any idea on when the public will get their eyes on them?

Unfortunately none whatsoever. My speculation is that at this point they may as well wait until right as the season is starting. Probably can drop at any point.

Thanks! Words and numbers being different colors may work.

Sorry if my description wasn't clear. I am pretty certain word mark and the numbers will all be the same one color on each different set.

The way things have been going lately, it will probably be on a news day where they need to create some positive spin.

It’s gonna have to be soon right? We’re starting officials and recruits will be taking pics in jerseys and putting on social media. We release them with some big PR or a recruit does in Twitter with minimal fanfare.

That's a good point. Or perhaps they get the first batch of recruits to be part of the fanfare. If you are trying to sell them on resurrecting the brand, I suppose the fanfare around a rebrand of the jerseys would be a nice added touch.

Looking forward to seeing them and I hope they have more contrast than the football jerseys. Not surprised but a little disappointed we are getting the slimmer "wrestling singlet" look. I like a slim fit but the ones Duke and Florida have are way too tight, I think our current throwback jerseys have the perfect fit.

It's just a bit too soon for 05 throwbacks. In 10 years that will slay.

Sorry if my description wasn't clear. I am pretty certain word mark and the numbers will all be the same one color on each different set.

I have become convinced this is the right way to go. The font looks better that way.

How about we wait until EJ official and let him unveil them with our current team members as well?

It could just get real odd if you unveil with recruits as the prime endorser, then they don’t choose the UI.

.

Sounds like they will be similar to the football jerseys, which is a good thing IMO.

I was thinking more like having the shield on the chest instead of wording. Just a guess tho. A black jersey would be horrendous in every way possible.

Don't think that's it. OP says it's one element on one part of the jersey. I'm guessing it's a distinctive design somewhere on the jersey.
