I wonder how much of an influence the performance of the team has on how people perceive the jerseys of the day. To wit, some of the most popular "throwback" options thrown around are the Flyin' Illini and the '04-'05 squad. Those are also our best teams in recent history. I suspect this is not mere coincidence.

Id argue that our 89 ones are also our best designed uniforms. Tougher sell on the 0405 ones.

It's a huge part of it.

Someone should post pictures of the recruits in the new uniforms. They look much better on the players.

Count me among the few that really doesn't mind the new uniforms. My understanding is that they're not meant to be much more than a tweak to what we have. When the rebrand comes next year, the two-tone italic 1LL1NO1S that so many of you hate will be gone by the wayside (as will be the shield, I suspect). Be disappointed if you must, but these uniforms are an improvement over last year's, especially with the zig-zags gone. What makes me cringe the most is seeing four different representations of our brand in the 1LL1NO1S, the new block I, the shield AND the I in neckline (It's like using 4 or 5 different fonts in your ad). I didn't expect 1LL1NO1S or the shield to be gone, because this isn't a rebrand. You had to know that the new block I would be on the uniforms because it IS the new brand for all of the university. Don't get me wrong, everything doesn't need to match -- baseball uniforms are a good example where you have one symbol on the cap and another on the uniform jersey, though I probably would have replaced the I in the neckline with the shield. What I do agree needs to change is that there needs to be more consistency in the colors used. We do have officials colors - those colors can be seen here (https://creativeservices.illinois.edu/brand/logos-and-colors.html). Pantone 2767C blue and Pantone 7417C orange. Consistent colors are a critical part of your brand and care should be taken to ensure that the correct ones are used.

The thing they don't tell you about becoming an old guy is that new things that the kids do bother you not because they're being different and rebellious, but because you thought the way YOU did it was different and rebellious.

Who would wear their shorts that tight? Haven't these kids heard of Allen Iverson?

Seeing these uniforms on players, they don’t look too bad. I guess these will suit is fine for the next year.

Is it the most successful teams or the teams that you first became a fan? I know as far as football I'll always prefer the mid 70's uniforms with the curved Illini around the earhole and basketball the Nick Weatherspoon era uniforms.

The pictures on the players do look better. Talk about dropping the ball with the unveiling post then

Always liked the mid '70's "ILLINI" for basketball. Wasn't a big a big fan of the Bob Blackmon pumpkin heads though

I know I'm swimming upstream, here, but I like the two-tone letters because I can't think of anyone else with that look, and that is, in some ways, the very definition of a visual Brand — the thing that sets you apart from everyone else. I'm certainly tired of the standard COLLEGE block letters, and I don't like the old script letters. Give me some 1LL1NO1S in two tone letters that stand out from the crowd, and I’m happy with it.

Yeah these are no doubt an upgrade. Obviously didn't hit it out of the park, but I'll take a double in the gap, especially for just one season. Much better shorts and much better cut/fit. Like it or not, the skinny form fitting unis are in right now. I personally like it. Our baggie unis the last couple years were out of place.

Couldn't agree with you more. Love those 70's orange uniforms and especially those helmets.

Just saw in the 30th anniversary bobbly heads that they will be giving away this year. All in orange jerseys. Clue to one of the uniforms changes this year? Willing to bet we sport the orange throwback fighting illini unis this year.

Really, they only need to wear the white throwback and an orange throwback like the ones the bobbleheads are wearing. They don't need anything else.
