Yeah, this is a good point. The ugly jumper is very visible in a highlight video of Shannon, whereas Tevian's purported difficulty guarding people is not.

Both *can* be improved with practice and development, but both will be very limiting if not.

But Tevian got a deserved amount of hype around here, and Shannon is an even better prospect. Come on down, dude.

Shannon may be ranked higher in Rivals compared to Jones(up until a couple weeks ago), but otherwise idk where this is coming from. Tevian has been consistently ranked by the services throughout his HS career and had 10+ offers. Shannon wasn't on the map until real late. He is also every bit as athletic without major questions about his skill.

Shannon is an RSCI top 100 player, Jones wasn't. Jones was 119th in the 247 composite, Shannon is 81st.

They're very comparable. But Shannon has the slight edge.

Let's get them both. Length and athleticism for days.

Just curious - rankings aside for a second, what makes you say that?

Isn't that a good thing? His stock is up at the right time, unlike in many of our past recruitments where we landed players that were ranked all throughout high school but didn't pan out as initially projected.

The rankings is what makes me say that.

Tevian Jones has a better highlight video, but the things you see in a highlight video only make up part of what makes a complete basketball player. Shannon was impacting games in multiple ways at both ends of the floor against excellent competition in the CPL and with MIF. And is no slouch hurting the rim in a highlight video either.

I'm a believer in letting the available data speak, and things like the RSCI and 247 composite are the best we've got. But I would be very excited for both guys.

Obviously landing Shannon wouldn't obviate our need for multiple frontcourt players in this class. That's the critical mission. But any time you've got a chance to get an impact talent, and a Chicago one at that, it's reason for excitement.

Tevian Jones averaged 10.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in the Nike EYBL with Cal Supreme Elite, shooting 47% overall. Shannon averaged 14 ppg in the Nike EYBL shooting 50% overall. Overall, I would say that Shannon has played better competition throughout high school. Both are great prospects and athletes but I would give Shannon the edge as well.

I don't want to be a pessimist, but that Shannon tweet kind of reads like "thanks for your interest". Hoping I'm wrong!

Sure is. The kid obviously has potential and it's a great sign he's coming on late. IMO in terms of "being a better prospect" you 2 players with similar skill-sets, but Shannon had like 1 high major offer going into his senior year or something. There's still some clear concerns about his skill. Tevian was consistently a bonafide high major prospect throughout high school without any major questions about his skill.

As an Offer List Guy, this is a lot of hanky-panky to obfuscate what I would view as Shannon's clearly superior offer list.

Unless you want to argue that Arizona was really going after Tevian, which was never super clear. But us, Arizona, and Cal are Tevian's only major conference offers. Shannon has a bunch.

When college coaches got a look at where Shannon was this summer playing with and against top competition, they were all in.

You lost me at "hanky panky obfuscate". Big words. It's really hard to tell these days what offers are committable and what not, but 247 mentioned Cincinnati, Connecticut, Texas, USC and Xavier were involved with Jones.

Does it help or hurt Shannon's ranking that he spent the summer playing with 2 potential Burger boys? I suppose it would help scouts gain familiarity with his game, but do you suppose playing with Khalil Whitney and Adam Miller might make him look worse in comparison?

Well, he didn't have offers from any of them.

I'm in the "hey, they're both really good" camp. The "Shannon is clearly better because rankings and offer lists" argument is there to be made. But if you want to say Tevian is clearly, demonstrably better, all you have to rely on is an Arizona offer and *shock collar activates* THE LOYALTY HIVEMIND!! *shock collar intensifies* o_O

Thought it was really interesting how overshadowed he was by Whitney, especially on this board. He was ever-so-quietly kicking !!! on the circuit and skyrocketing up the rankings.

It really helped him because it opened up the lanes for him, plus Adam Miller knows how to run a team. All three were focal points, and while Whitney and Miller have more skill, it also demonstrated that Shannon can hold his own despite playing for a team with highly ranked stars.

I'm in the same camp man. They are both really good players with similar skillsets. Valid points on the offer lists and rankings. Don't tell me that slow funky release jump shot doesn't raise an eyebrow, though. That is a clear and demonstrable concern for him as a prospect.
