The tie I'm really hoping for, now, is Milwaukee and Cubs tying for the division and having to play a 1 game tie breaker before the loser plays in Chicago. Brewers go 3-1 in their 4 left (lose tonight, sweep Detroit) to end at 94-68. Cubs go 3-2 (win tonight & tomorrow, go 1-2 against the Cardinals) and finish at 94-68. Cardinals, erstwhile, go 3-1 and end at 90-72, pass the Rockies (who go 2-3, end at 89-73).

The Cubs losing a tie-breaker game and then losing the wild card game in Chicago to St. Louis would almost make losing this Brewers series worth it.

There is something sweet about that. I will say, out west, things are getting interesting. The dodgers have to play Grienke tonight. And the Giants are very excited to finish their season as the spoiler (they have been VERY public with their desire to see the Rockies make it over the Dodgers). Things are spicy right now for sure. But I’m with you, I’d love to see some 2015 payback against the cubs.

Those are some lofty goals!

I’m sure the Cubs find their missing hitting stroke this weekend.

One game back of the Dodgers heading into the weekend. We're going to need some help from their biggest rival, the Giants, who will be throwing Bumgarner, Rodriguez and Suarez. Their top 3. There's hope still, even after a disappointing week.

Man, I know there are 162 games but it would really suck if the final nail in the coffin is hammered in by a minor league guy tripping trying to round 3rd. Could you pick a worse time to do that?

It's been reported that the Giants would like nothing more than to knock their biggest rival out of a playoff spot. Those top 3 along with the Giants regular starters (that are healthy at least) are expected to be available this weekend.

This weekend's probable pitchers for the final series of the season at Wrigley:

Friday: Wainwright (2-3, 4.08) vs. Hendricks (13-11, 3.49)
Saturday: Mikolas (17-4, 2.94) vs. Hamels (9-11, 3.87)
Sunday: Flaherty (8-8, 3.16) vs. Montgomery (5-6, 3.99)

these matchups seem favorable for us. I'm still holding onto the slimmest of hopes. with the rockies winning today, I have sorta accepted that the Giants are our Allies and need them to have a great weekend!

Of course game 1 is extremely important. A win puts all the pressure on the Dodgers and a loss takes all the pressure off. Cubs had to play a night game before a day game while we got a day off to regroup.

At this point, if the Cardinals make the wild card game, it'll almost have to be against the Cubs, unless the Brewers really crap the bed against Detroit. Sweep or take 2/3 and that probably knocks the Cubs into the wild card, then you just hope the Dodgers lose 1 or 2 against the Giants and force a tie.

Wainwright in an afternoon game in Wrigley scares the crap out of me, really hope the wind isn't blowing out or it might be a looooong day.

Didn't expect this team to make a push for the playoffs like this, but that doesn't take the sting away. What a disappointing final week of the season. Mo has some work to do in the off-season.

It hurts, especially for all the work the young guys put into the rebirth in Aug. Rooney said today might be the last time we see Waino on the mound for the cardinals. ugh, it just sad to see. Was bound to happen sometime. We'll see how Mo can shore up this club in the offseason.

Need a power hitting 3rd baseman that can field. Can’t have a .240 hitter batting 3rd. Not sure Munoz fits the bill.

Cardinals stay alive, winning 2-1.

If Dodgers win over the Giants this afternoon, Cardinals are eliminated from playoff contention.

Not dead yet. Mikolous was amazing! It would have been humiliating to get swept by the brewers then the cubs. At least we got this one. As a side note, I’m rooting for the brewers to win, knock the cubs into a tie

If cubs and dodgers play in the wild card, do you know where that game will be played?

Is Matheny still managing this team? How do you not pinch hit there?

I was very bummed about that decision. The little things in this game just don’t seemed to be well managed in this game. Adams should have hit there
