Question.... How can you call yourself a fan(fanatic) of a team yet always talking down about the team, recruits, current players, and coaches? That's not the definition of a fan.... that's a hater... Just an observation... Would you walk up to someone you claim to be a fan of and start talking about all the negative things you think about them? ILL-INI "I'm riding with the Illini until the day I die"

Amen. No one is saying we all have to be blind homers, and some healthy realism (maybe even skepticism) is needed. However, as someone who has spent most of his life as an Illini fan in Iowa City, the whole "extremely reasonable Illini fan" schtick is a tired one that I am sick of. There is a difference in understanding that Illinois isn't the center of the universe and display an annoyingly ignorant positivity about the Illini (like the fans in Iowa and Nebraska behave, for example) and literally talking down the program you allegedly want to succeed, especially in front of other fans/on a public message board. It's sad. I don't know if it's some type of defense mechanism given that we have sucked at sports lately and people want to at least seem like "smart" and "reasonable" or whatever (at least U of I still has academics!), but it's super annoying. If our own fans can't have a PASSIONATE belief that the sky is the limit at the University of Illinois, we are screwed.

Here's a list of the last centers we have offered (I think I got them all. Also big shout out to rbachhuber for maintaining the scholarship grid). I have added some notes that are definitely not definitive about their/our chances etc. They are just some notes I have gleaned from the interweb that may be of interest and that may also indicate their inclination to committing to Illinois.

Balsa Koprivica C The 2019 5-star Serbian giant says that "Baylor, Florida State, and Gonzaga have been the main schools involved." I could find no indication that he has any interest in Illinois. UVs to Louisville (twice), Baylor, FSU, Kentucky, Miami (twice) and UCF. OA to Baylor. Said to be ready to release his final list soon. He said this back in July and nothing so far. I also happened to notice an old, over one year old article about his involvement in the fbi investigation into college basketball. But nothing since then

Kai Jones C Final 3--FSU,Texas and Baylor.

Tre Mitchell C 3 CBs to Notre Dame but there still seems to be interest in Illinois. Rivals has him having “high” interest in ND, UConn and Illinois. No others. VAIllini35 mentioned that he is taking and OV to Illinois next weekend (10/12) which is also reported on Rivals

Aidan Igiehon C On Aug. 28, 2018 cut his list to Louisville, Oregon, St. Johns and Kentucky. Kentucky met with Igiehon 10/3. While it hasn’t been 100% confirmed whether or not he’s been offered (or if the offer is committable), Kentucky is still in the mix. Most recently, recruiting experts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater picked Kentucky as the favorite to land Igiehon’s commitment, though Evan Daniels is sticking with Louisville for now, and it’s the Cardinals who lead the crystal balls.

Drew Timme CBs: Texas A&M leads followed by Duke (although he cut Duke from his list so obviously CBs need to be updated) and MSU. His list as of Aug. 2 Texas Tech, Georgia, Louisville, Illinois, MSU, TA&M, Purdue, Arizona, Alabama and Oklahoma. Underwood was the first to offer Timme a scholarship when Timme was 15 and Underwood had just taken the Oklahoma State job.

Jason Jitoboh According to Rivals, Louisville and Illinois are his main (high) interests. Taking an OV to Louisville Nov. 8. 247Sports adds Florida and Tennessee as also warm and has CBs to Louisville and Florida. OV to Tennessee Sept. 14, Florida Oct. 5, Illinois Oct 11

Kofi Cockburn Still hoping. Still interested in Illinois. This was written last July but per Adam Zagoria he is taking four visits (which may not be official visits, despite some other accounts) to Kentucky, Connecticut, Florida State and Illinois.

Oscar Tshiebwe He has, as most here know, taken his OV to Illinois and we are waiting expectantly. Appears to still be interested but I don’t think many think he is coming here. Others on this board have written about OT (and I think KC) in regards to if so and so commits to some school that may affect where OT and/or KC end up. I would refer you to those messages for more information.

Agree some people see the negative a lot more, but being a fan doesn't mean the glass is always half full, (unless its half full of orange kool-aid). I love my kids, but you can be sure I am going to point out the things that are not "OK" or the situations where I expect more out of them. I view it similar to that. I'm not mad at Illinois basketball right now, I'm just disappointed.
I agree that we can make observations about things regarding the team, yet stay supportive and positive. However, when it's more negative than positive and stops being constructive criticism... it should be reevaluated whether you are supportive or just hating. If you don't want to support the team for whatever reason it's fine.... but that sounds like a fair weather fan. Only supportive when things are going good and not supportive when things are going bad. There's always something that could be better and it is okay to point it out... But constantly is a downer for sure.

Wow... we can find a way to make anything negative on here can't we? This is next level

I guess the good news is that if we end up with Syracuse visiting in the ACC challenge, Q won't be suiting up.

Have to agree - its always fun to go to the Aftergame thread after a 21 point win on the road (when we were, what?, 10 point favorites) and see people pull out only the negative on our QB who just got back from injury and had only played 6 quarters prior. Many were positive posts, but come on people - we WON! Enjoy it!

It's always the darkest before the dawn.

Also, Morrow Plots is the exact center of the universe. I'll go correct Wiki now.

Honestly, isn't that the kind of stuff that makes a board like this run? Having multiple viewpoints and both compliments and criticisms?

I would imagine this place would be exceedingly less interesting to read if we had to negativity, Heck, I have a friend who is a die hard OSU fan and even he thinks Haskins is a mediocre QB at times. Being a fan has plenty of different definitions, but the only requirement I imagine is sticking with the team, through thick and thin.

If you can stick with illini athletics through the past decade (and visit boards similar to these) and continue to do so, you're about as good of a fan as you can possibly be.

Yes, but are we really at the point where we collectively can't enjoy a win without picking apart the team 2 hours afterward? I guess there is a time and place and the postgame of our first B1G win in years seems to be the wrong time. Perhaps we can have a happy face post game thread and a sad face post game thread for those who want to enter one side of the party or the other or both. ;)

I mean, there were loads of posts that were nothing but excitement and positives in that thread. I really do enjoy these threads where we tell other people how they are being fans wrong. I've probably been having fun the wrong way for years too, can anyone explain it to me?

Yeah - that one always gets thrown out - hey people respond/react to how people act all the time - get used to it in life. I also really hate the "I've know how to whistle with my fingers really loud" guy behind me in the stands - so I guess thats just me. But since this is the recruiting thread, have the last shot and I'll leave it there.

Last Sunday morning, I bumped into OA at Willard and he said he was heading to Connecticut. I assumed he knew about Liddell and was making an early flight. I'm assuming it was Tre Mitchell.

He also said he had a guy coming in November.

How about living in Iowa for starters...

Do we have a couple of recruits on campus this weekend? Jitoboh? Mitchell?

There is a question now as to whether Jitoboh is going to make it. Is there a possiblity we whiff this fall??
