There is a question now as to whether Jitoboh is going to make it. Is there a possiblity we whiff this fall??

This article is a a little over a week old so if this has been discussed already my apologies. It concerns Kevin Ollie.

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-mens-basketball/hc-sp-uconn-men-ncaa-kevin-ollie-1002-story.html

In the article it says, "UConn was not named as a culprit in the notice of allegations. Sanctions against the program could come from this, but UConn, having already fired Ollie, could impose its own sanctions and perhaps avoid more serious penalties from the NCAA."

Just wondering if anyone thinks this could have any impact on Mitchell's decision.

Always a possibility but I still believe we get Shannon. No new information, but based on what I have heard on the situation a couple of months ago, I believe he is ours to lose. If we do lose Shannon, I'd be worried.

Other than Shannon, we desperately need some quality additions in the frontcourt, someone who has some inside skills to complement our backcourt. Time is not our ally but we will have over a month, so too early to make predictions.

Are we certain that Drew Timme actually makes it to campus for one of his official visits? Looks like last weekend he visited Gonzaga?

I have been off of the grid for a while, but I am wondering what impact Jacobs commitment to DePaul will have on Shannon. They are AAU teammates, DePaul is in his old neighborhood and he committed once before. I was hoping Jacobs committed after his visit to ILL.

The Shannon recruitiment has really been weird and throw in The Show to DePaul and it makes it even weirder. Corey Evans of Rivals has said that TSJ has stated that FSU is at the top of his recruitment.

That's a good sign, him not immediately jumping to WVA.

Would be a pretty big shocker if he doesn't end up at WVU. I'm sure stranger things have happened. But there is major pull for him to end up there, and that's probably an understatement. I just hope he ends up going where HE wants to go.

I have no idea, they do know each other but I do not know whether there is an influence in their choice of schools.

Yeah guys, Groce just got here, give him some time. 2014 is going to be a HUGE year, we're finally going to start getting that top talent. Just wait and see.

That would be a relevant example if everything else was equal, but since Groce and Underwood are different people, their staffs are different, the recruits they are targeting are different, and the college basketball recruiting landscape is different, then I think it's rather foolish to expect that we are doomed to repeat exactly the same pattern again.

Even if all those things weren't different and only the staffs have changed, it's still pretty silly to expect the results to be identical. At the end of the day, it's perfectly reasonable to expect a coach to take a little time to make their mark.

The question shouldn't be whether or not it takes a coach some time to get things moving, but rather how much time and whether that much time is an appropriate time to wait for results.

About, depending on growth plates this can change :)

He is really a SF, needs to improve his shot and tighten his handles. But gives you extreme effort, energy, combined with athleticism. A lot of his points are hustle points based on effort.

I was more just pointing out that Illinois fans seem to have more blind faith than people on this board seem to think they do. Over the years, despite all results to the contrary, we still think we're just about to turn the corner and take off again. I count myself among those idiots. All off season I dwell on the negatives, but as the season approaches I grasp at any positive straw I can get my hands on to convince myself we're going to be better, both on the court and in recruiting.

I imagine that has a lot to do with the fact that we are a major athletics school with a (mostly) healthy, passionate fanbase in basketball that is located near multiple fertile recruiting areas. We are literally the right coach and a little bit of luck away from being a real monster of a program (again). Maybe not a true blue blood, but there is no reason we shouldn't basically be on par with Michigan State or Arizona year in and year out like we used to be other than a series of poor coaching hires.

Of course, as fans, we all hope that each new coach is the one who will bring us back to that place. I think the fanbase is willing, in general, to have some blind optimism (not faith, IMO) because we all desperately want each new coach to be that one. Every fan has his or her limits, of course, and that is why you saw very few remaining Groce supporters at the end of his tenure.

Add to that list that we now have a coach that has an offense let alone knows how to run one.

Even though they just got a commitment from another similar wing? You are correct, it is nuts.
