I should clarify. AH-S wasn't the recruiting coach in Childress' case, as much as he was the future position coach. The committed recruit simply wanted his future WR coach to reach out on occasion but never heard from him. He (& his ego) felt neglected & wanted to look elsewhere.
I am not mad at the guy for hammering Texas, where there is a lot more talent. But if AH-S didn't make it a point to check in(phone call) with him every once in a while, then that is a mistake....clearly.

I am sure his Uncle was in his ear all the time filling him with " good thoughts"... That guy is a cancer.

What is sad is he might be altering a great situation for some kids because of his personal vendetta against Corey. I am sorry but Tulane is NOT the University of Illinois. I am going to go out on a limb and say a degree at the U of I holds more credibility than Tulane. I could be wrong, I am not looking it up. But in terms of football...please.
When Missouri remains a piss poor team for the next 5 years with his kid, a long line of people will be feeding that guy crow.

Tulane is a very good school with a beautiful campus. Academically not far behind U of I at all. That said, even with our lowly record over the past decade it's still a definite step down in football prestige than we are.

Wait, what? Did Childress commit to Tulane?

If AHS didn't check in with Childress, I'd think there is a reason they stopped recruiting him. Perhaps the staff thought accepting a commit from Childress would help them land Marcus Washington, and now they've moved on from Washington?

With all due respect, I find that utterly ridiculous.

Let's just wait to find out how the recruiting class finishes up. Even if his uncle did bad mouth us to the point he de committed there's nothing we could do to stop that. The way those kids talked about coach Patterson before he was on the Illini staff suggests he is a great mentor. In no way do I think his hire was strictly to get a bunch of the Trinity players. More likely to help get Isaiah Williams and keep him committed. Sure it would be nice to get Shammond and Henry but our future success does not hinge on one high school football team let alone a WR outside of the top 1000 with an uncle that has a grudge against coach Patterson. Step off the ledge those that are saying this could be a problem.

This is extreme and honestly if you really feel that strongly about what he's doing I'm not sure how you aren't a little hypocritical here... seeing as you've called the guy a cancer. (unless he was born in July, then ignore my post).

Parents/relatives/coaches/trainers/mailmen are in the ear of these recruits every day. Some opinions matter more than most. You can call the guy names all you want, but crapping on Illinois is not something exclusive to him. Label it how you will, but I bet a lot of parents have stopped kids from coming to illinois and albeit behind closed doors, have said much worse about our coaching staff, program, and university. At no point did Illinois stop recruiting Childress. Our WR coach is lazy and simply lost this recruit due to his own lack of effort. Sad but true.

The coaches from our staff could have been in his ear countering every bad thing said.

Seems the problem was that our staff was not in his ear.

Finally put two and two together. Nu Nu washington’s Nephew is Bryce Childress. There were some cryptic nephew tweets from Nu Nu a couple of weeks ago. Now it all makes sense

Wait, Nunu is Childress's uncle too?

I know he's Mookie Cooper's uncle, hence why Marcus and Mookie have been looked at as a potential package deal to Texas. Had never heard he was also family with Childress too

Although I agree with you, I think Missouri could point to their string of receivers that got drafted in the last 5 or so years.

And if you look, Missouri fans think they will win 10 games this season. I think they may not be bowl eligible.

You are only going to hear one side, recruiting rules and all. thanks for passing on the info. Doesn’t quite add up for me, but I don’t know. Obviously if Childress reached out to AHS and received no response, that is bad.
However, rod smith and Corey were just at the game. Corey can be trusted, whereas going to another football staff, he will be going in blind if they will take care and do what’s best for him.
Also, Corey works right next to AHS, so he could always make AHS contact BC on a regular basis if it was known that is what BC wanted.

Cory is still a rookie position coach. He can't "make" AHS do anything. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for the staff that there needs to be better communication. I mean, Werner has also said this was a reason Massey chose Mizzou. He had a good relationship with his position coach there, while he didn't really develop one with AHS.

Cory is awesome, but he cant do everything. The good news is that it sounds like Childress made an emotional decision, and there still is time to get him back. But the staff needs to make sure for other STL guys like Okpala and Randolph they're hearing from their position coach as much as they're hearing from Cory

College coaches who dont 'like' to recruit, or just dont recruit, will not be college coaches much longer.

I was under the impression that AHS is one of our top recruiters and has been lead recruiter on many if not all of the Texas recruits, so I don't think him not liking to recruit has anything to do with it. Sounds like maybe some bad communication among the staff. Or maybe Childress was just looking for a reason to reopen his recruitment.

All good points, thanks for info. Appreciate the posters with info. Hopefully he reconsiders and staff is hearing this feedback. Makes sense to have lead for regions and secondary for position coach.
I wonder how it works for other positions like LB, where hardy is dc/cal lead/ and position coach recruiter? Would even be spread thinner I guess.

You all are giving Nu Nu way too much credit. He just say or ask questions based on what he is thinking. His only true concern is his son and that's that. As far as Childress goes, I wouldn't be so sure this is not a Illinois initiated decision. Time will tell.

Bryce's comments in this article indicate that he may recommit:

https://writingillini.com/2018/10/1...e-childress-still-eyeing-illini-landing-spot/

“No visits for other schools,” said Childress, “Illinois is the only school I want to be a part of.”

“My next move is to join the Illini family again,” said Childress.

“Isaiah and I are going to come take over the Big Ten,” said Childress.

I really hope that they can straighten things out and get him back on board. This could be another Joseph Thompson situation where the kid makes an emotional decision but things get ironed out in the end.

Wow...what an odd turn of events.

So was the decommitment just the “HEY, WAKE UP AND CONTACT ME” message he was trying to send to the coaches? (Or maybe AHS in particular?)
