Jeez. Caught red-handed. So what, he'll get a self-imposed (no pun intended) 5-game suspension to start the season and we'll never hear about this again?

Also, just saw this: Mike Krzyzewski: College basketball is 'actually pretty clean' ...this is laughable disingenuous.

While I don’t agree with K’s take on the payments, I think he’s spot on about that grad transfer stuff at the end. Obviously shifting the focus, but a good point none the less.

The current yahoo article alleges Kansas, Oregon, Arizona, LSU, and Depaul were all guilty of cheating. It maybe sheds some light on why we are losing players to Oregon and Depaul so often. Williamson Recruitment

To be factual, this specific article does not allege that. It mentions that Kenny Johnson (assistant) claimed that in a text to Pitino but that text was not permitted as evidence (probably due to lack of verification).

Read today's article on ESPN about investigation for those interested. A rep from NCAA says they are fully aware of the day to day court precedings. But the rampant cheating that's been going on in college football and basketball for decades they are unaware of . Folks how do think some these programs come up with these kids? It ain't because of the coaches ability to close!

Honestly, I'm at the point that I hope they just blow the whole thing up.

College basketball has been so dirty for so long that I don't even think it's worth saving.

Was the job he requested for himself? If so props to him for wanting to work for his impermissible benefits.

Either way, I'm glad he realized that 10 months of free education from Duke was reward enough.

Will Wade says he didn't work with runner accused of steering players

LSU coach Will Wade said Wednesday that he has never "done business" with Christian Dawkins, who is accused of offering inducements to steer players to certain schools.

Wade's comments came less than 24 hours after lawyers for the defendants in the college basketball corruption trial in New York tried to admit evidence to show the LSU coach was prepared to offer illicit benefits for the services of 2019 recruit Balsa Koprivica, ranked No. 42 in his class by ESPN, if Dawkins could guarantee the 7-footer would sign with the Tigers.

I know there are some legal people on this thread.

So with all of the evidence that wasn’t “permissible” how are they allowed to read the transcripts, but not listen to the recordings?

Also- is having a conversation about “doing business” but not actually ever “doing business” considered breaking the law?

I know this isn’t a crash course in law school forum, but as I follow this I am having a hard time figuring out what these guys did that was actually considered against the law?

If the conversation is about breaking the law, then the conversation could be considered conspiracy (there is more to it than just talking about it though). I don't know this particular area of law enough to say what they allegedly discussed was about breaking the law though.

Furthermore, they could have read the transcripts to the judge without the jury being present as a motion to admit the recordings into evidence, which the judge then denied.

‘Kansas’ Head coach knew of and asked for a payment to be made to Silvio de Sousa’s handler. ‘Coach Self and Coach Townsend knew of and asked Adidas to make this payment to Fenny.’ -Michael Schacter, Jim Gatto’s attorney

Innocent till proven guilty, but wow that's about as bad as it could get for Self...

NCAA will launch an investigation, KU will fire Townsend and Self will deny that he was aware and state that he never sent any texts from his phone. Some fabricated story about Townsend was impersonating him via text with an unauthorized phone. KU gives up a scholarship and self imposes a one year tourney ban...NCAA is okay with that and Self goes on to win Big 12 championships numbers 15, 16, 17 or whatever in a row.

I just don’t think the NCAA will cut their own throats!

Frankly, if it turns out that Self is guilty, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
It shouldn't, it really shouldn't. He hired Townsend 14 years ago, about the same time this article was written. He hired a scumbag, knowing he was a scumbag. Quite the coincidence that 14 conference title streak. Kansas and Self were made for each other. Kansas was paying players long before Larry Brown, and assistants Calipari and Self.

When everyone's breaking the rules, and they get away with it because the enforcement is pathetic and built to keep the money flowing, you're not going to get anywhere complaining about it --you need to adjust. Buying talent has been going on for 5 decades at least

The only difference in the interceding years is that programs HAVE adjusted, and enforcement has become more and more farcical. The colleges can't help themselves --they'll do anything for more money.

Coach K is a liar. You know how I know that? His lips are moving! All these guys are liars. And they lie because it's what the money machine demands of them. When was the last time you saw a coach get caught red-handed and say anything remotely believable? It's not gonna happen.

And from a moral perspective, who really cares if it's pay to win, as long as it's entertaining, and the fans keep watching? By now, if you don't know college recruiting has a thriving black market, you probably think smoking is good for you, or politicians tell the truth.

Is Zion Williamson the new Cam Newton? Why Duke's star could face eligibility issues this season

Townsend’s response: “I’ve got to just try to work and figure out a way because if that’s what it takes to get him here for 10 months, we’re going to have to do it some way.”

And with that revelation, Zion Williamson potentially becomes college basketball’s new Cam Newton — a megastar recruit implicated in a pay-for-play scheme allegedly orchestrated by a family member. As with Newton, two schools are involved — one linked to a potential money deal, and one that actually signed the player. Also similar to Newton is the profile — Williamson has 1.7 million Instagram followers and is the Rivals.com No. 5 recruit in the country — and importance to a national championship contender.

In the wake of Newton’s eligibility case in 2010, the NCAA rules changed to close a loophole that allowed him to stay eligible, win the Heisman Trophy and national championship. Could that very rule change – the so-called “Cecil Newton Rule” – end up jeopardizing Williamson’s eligibility at Duke?

“If [Williamson’s stepfather] solicited or received money from Kansas, he would be an agent under NCAA rules and his action would affect his son’s competition eligibility at Duke,” said Nebraska law professor Josephine Potuto, a member of the NCAA Committee on Infractions for many years.

Paying players is not adjusting, it is blatant cheating. The members of the NCAA belong to an amateur organization, and those who cheat are using professionals. Duke, and K are a Dicky V fantasy, and yes they cheat too, just hidden a little better. I care, as a lifetime college basketball fan. Those who pay at crap little states like Az., Kansas, N.C, etc., could not compete with the Illinois fan base if paying was legit. That is the real fraud. The outcome of the trial is meaningless. What the NCAA does or doesn't do, means something to me. Kansas was exposed to anyone with half a brain, as others will be in the next two trials. They didn't play by the same rules, and should pay the price. The BS excuse that everyone is doing it, is a childish, ignorant excuse, extremely popular with Kansas fans.

College sports depends on make-believing that it is semi-equal competition.

In reality, it is no more equal competition than professional baseball. Maybe less.

Also, it is sad to read all of the news articles about Self's brilliance as a coach and the wonderful string of B12 titles.

I think Self went to Kansas because he could do whatever he wanted to do there and the administration would not care.

They cheat & the NCAA will do nothing to the blue bloods. Anything that means something
