It’s time for BU and this staff to put up or shut up. Too many here being way to soft and poo pooing the actual on the court and recruiting results. It’s not a requirement to be on a long term plan, many guys get it done in 1-2 years.

I thought this defensive style is suppose to wear people out...........in a year plus we dont wear anyone out but ourselves. Teams score at will on us.

On the positive side, AG is looking good and will get better as the season goes on. Saying it again, he will be a star.

Like usual, our offense is mostly perimeter, and if we don't shoot the 3 well, we lose. This has been going on for years. Georgi being in foul trouble gave us zero chance of winning, but even if he stayed in it would have been tough. Georgi looks like a really good player, and I think Ayo and Trent and Griffin and others look good too. But game in, game out, we're just outmanned. Not talented enough, not big enough.

I blame the coaching for this loss. It was clear that Iowa State had more size that gave them way more second chance shots and opportunities to score after initial misses, while we were held to one and done. BU intentionally chose to not play any size. We had guards trying to get rebounds against guys that could stand flat footed on the floor and rebound over them. Guys were gassed and he still refused to play our talent. We have two 7 footers and you play Adonis who just got cleared for contact. Samba has speed like a guard and can rebound and block shots. Tevian Jones can be the athlete he is and rebound and contest shots against those players tonight. Gave us no chance after the half once we got in foul trouble. But played his son and other non factor players while our 4 star recruit sat on the bench ready to help. That's how you tear down a team real quick when you be petty and do things like that! They know what they got and who should be on the floor, but they see you pulling that mess and all they want to do is win. Guys guarding the floor but not the players... seriously? Im frustrated watching tonight play out. I wanted to turn it off. This was embarrassing for our team and fans! Keep ya head up guys! Wow!

Get ready, because this game will be repeated a lot of times this season. Early glimpses of hope, then crashing back to reality.

I do believe we are headed in the right direction, but we are going to get there in very, very small steps. The steps could have been a lot bigger with a guy like Talen Horton-Tucker. That's on the coaching staff. And it will haunt us for a while as the kid develops even more.

This team was spent from the tip-off on. Fast breaks looked like they were running through mud. Makes you question whether the pressure D can hold up over a tourney - or was it a circumstance of no recover time after a very tough team?

I am tired of teams shooting 50% + against us. Not for sure how this defense works? We didn’t get the turnovers tonight were lazy on rotations, couldn’t hang onto rebounds. Offense didn’t get us anything easy and we didn’t make shots!!! We won’t be in the tournament again this year...

The team looked tired.

What I saw from last night, this team is shakey at half court execution. Coming out of a timeout they are just as likely to make a turnover.

Thy’re Better off taking a quick shot than running down the shot clock.

Can we rewind to yesterday with 30.5 seconds left, and have Trent hit that shot? Would be a lot nicer at the time of posting upsetting a top team and getting reved up for an Illinois-Arizona matchup. Oh ok let’s get ready to watch another lost recruit (Paul Scruggs) have us going home empty handed.

It’s not a mystery at all. He wants turnovers and is willing to give up easy baskets to get them. Whether he can make it work or not is the mystery.

I don't think that can work consistently at the high major level. There's now two plus seasons of BU at the high major level and that system as yielded less than stellar results.

We run one offensive set and run it pretty poorly (especially when Giorgi is out). Once we get through that little offensive set we stop running it and play hero ball...usually Trent because no one else has the ability to create for himself. Even with Giorgi being really good as a freshman, we are really bad in the post on the defensive end. Gonna be a really long season. Hope everyone comes back and Underwood can teach them another set or 2 of his offense for next yr or he wont be coaching at Illinois very much longer lol

We were up 5 at halftime. Anybody that chalks this up to anything other than piss-poor play and worse coaching isn’t being realistic. We got outplayed by a better team with more skilled, athletic players in the second half. Ugh, tired of this. I better log off.

They are only ranked 30th in Kenpom and are missing a combined 45 ppg due to injury/suspension. They weren’t more skilled or athletic than us. They had an offensive and defensive game plan that worked.

Ayo’s strength is getting in the lane. He didn’t do that. Feliz’s strength is getting in the lane. He didn’t do that. Frazier also struggled to get in the lane. To me that’s on the coach.

I would love to hear from @FiveStar about this half court offense right now. To me it seems extremely vanilla. Running the same very basic sets over and over.

Tired? I don't want to hear the fatigue thing. Were you tired at 18 after playing a competitive sport, especially wrestling? Sure, but you recovered quickly and were ready to go the next day. There's more to the Illini loss than fatigue. Not just a loss, but a bad loss.

As much as last night was a shining example of what we have to look forward too, tonight was a shining example of how far we have to go. Not so sure THT wasn't out to prove a point, (he did) dominated in the 2nd half and no one stepped up and took it to him/them as they did us. A bad resume loss to be sure, probably worst implications than the G-Town loss, due to the expectations before each game...it looks bad, just that simple.

Illini I think will be better long term, but thoroughly beaten by an over-achieving, undermanned team today.

Where youth is supposed to recover quickly or not be worn down at all, our's did not...all players looked gassed, especially Ayo in the 2nd half, looked disinterested at times, and lagged behind on several drives. He did have a major block, lucky that wasn't a foul though.

Mrs Kane or Mrs Jones, is that you?

I'm not saying this was a well coached game, but this post is silly.

Blaming the coaches and the refs are the comfortable thing to do because it's an easy thing to do.

Fact is, we got out muscled, out worked....out everythinged by an Iowa State team who was bigger, stronger, quicker and more talented offensively than our guys.

There is absolutely nothing that Kane or Jones would have done to help prevent that second half beatdown. BU sees his guys in practice, he knows where they're at, if they're lost or confused and he's not going to put them in there to fail or embarrass themselves.

Try and breathe

I’m telling you, 2024 is our year!!!!

No, I don't think so, and here's why: 1989 final four through 2005 final four = 16 years; 2005 + 16 years= 2021! How's that for arithmetic and optimism?

I have to wait every 16 years for an Illini emergence; I feel like a cicada!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Definitely more skilled and athletic than us with their ability to get in the lane and finish at the basket.

Ayo can’t really break you down off the dribble but he can turn the corner on you, he just doesn’t have elite leaping ability to finish at the basket.

Feliz can’t consistently break you down either but has the ability to get to the basket, but at 5’10” or whatever isn’t that much of a threat at the rim all though he does use his body very well.

Trent can get there and is probably the best slasher we have. But I still wouldn’t say that’s his strength.

Iowa St had multiple players with handles, blow by, and bounce to score at the basket. They could also get in the lane and create for each other. We just don’t have that caliber of fluid athlete. Haven’t had that in a long, long time.

And it’s even more concerning that they were missing some of their best players.

How in the world did we lose this game up by 5 at half?

Coaching. Prohm did some. Underwood didn’t.

We keep preaching patience. At some point, that wears thin. It’s way thin in football. Hoops could still turn but showings like today don’t give fans much hope. Losing three in three days is going to hurt. Apparently, we are the new Chaminade. Lol.
