Depaul just gave up 50% shooting from 3 pt range to Notre Dame....maybe we can entice them into 3's and no layups, and then JCL old team can win this one, something JCL new team failed miserably at?

Also of note, team tri_captain Elijah Burns announced he was transferring after a few games and just announced he will be going to Siena. His minutes were fading but he was a downlow guy, so now ND only has 10 scholarship players. His peak was scoring 15 pts against Chicago State.

I didn't know you could play 3 games then Grad transfer to a new school and play in January.

Man, even though we aren't seeing the wins I love the early season schedule with all of these big name teams. When conference play comes around there won't be anything we haven't seen.

Completely agree. I think some in here would prefer being 6-0 against cupcakes just to feel good about themselves. These games will pay dividends down the road #clubkathy

At this point, I'll be happy if Tyler isn't listed in the final box score. He brings nothing another guard we have on the team doesn't (and is especially frustrating considering the others we have on the roster).

I've convinced myself it's BU essentially saying he gets the type of game, so he's playing him over others, but I care zero for that type of thinking. No, he hasn't been dreadful, but he certainly isn't a shooter and is below every other guard we have in terms of defending.

He's played 2 meaningful minutes all season, at the end of the half vs Gtown when we were in foul trouble and just trying to survive until the half. I don't really even know why it's a talking point.

In that game, even with foul trouble, their were other, better options. He was in against ISU when the game was still within reach. Those are questionable decision, regardless. The GT one might have changed the outcome of that game. Sorry, but it's a talking about because it isn't a) a one-off error, or b) insignificant.

ND -5, seems a tad low?

Seriously, a lot of you are vastly overrating Notre Dame based on their record and previous success in March Madness. They lost to Penn State in the NIT and also lost most of their scoring from that year. I've watched most of their games and ours. ND is my second favorite team. If it wasn't against us, I'd be rooting for them. I'm not just your standard ND hating Illini fan haha.

I think we can win, the line just seems low based on our other lines this year, and this being a true road game, I like us +5.

I would be buying all you’re selling, but I was very surprised to see what they did to DePaul, who I believe is a team very much on the rise. If ND shoots it the way they did vs them this game will be a major challenge.

man, crazy to think we have Notre Dame, Nebraska and OSU this week...

Toughest opening stretch in the history of the program, this might be it...

#1 Gonzaga, top 30ish Iowa St team, Xavier, Georgetown, Notre Dame, top 35ish Nebraska, top 25 OSU with 2 cup cakes to start the year...insane! Rather start 3-6 with this schedule than 8-1 with all gimmes...this team is young and these games develop the guys more. Look at the strides Griffin, Samba, Ayo, Jordan, Damonte, Tev etc. have made already going into game 7. It’s all about showing progress, we are YOUNG and this is the best way to develop quickly! Looking forward to our first true road game! Go illini!

One thing to consider with Notre Dame is that in the 3 games prior to their win over DePaul on Saturday (where they put up 95 points), they were only averaging about 66 points per game.

If we can force them into turnovers, we should have a pretty good chance to win. If not, it could be a long night in South Bend.

They were only up 3 at half. Luckily Nate and Rex got hot from the 3.

They shot 48% for 16 3s against DePaul. The other games:
29%
25%
31%
32%
18% (4-22 woof)

Their overall FG% only broke 40% in two games. DePaul game was 55%.

So I guess we will see which ND team shows up. If they shoot 55% and 48% again then yah we(ND) probably beat us(Illinois).

Yep, ND is either on the upsweep of a steep learning curve, or DePaul was an outlier and they will revert to form tonight. Neither would surprise me.

I’m not sold on the whole rather start 3-6 against a tough schedule because the players will develop faster. It could happen, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

I hope they fall back to what they were. Unfortunately, opponents FG% and our defense seem to be a match made in heaven.

We've not exactly been holding our opponents down in the shooting % area....if we play the aggressive overplay man defense as usual....then we better turn them over 15-20+ in order to win
