Notre Dame 76, Illinois 74 POSTGAME

A lot of poor passing there. And I would like to see us close out on 3 point shooters under control. Couple times where not one but two of our defenders simultaneously took themselves out of the play by flying past the shooter.

Deep down Underwood had to know this was going to be a bad year, with that said why didn’t we redshirt Samba? I understand wanting to see what you have, but I just don’t get it. Set yourself up to be better not only next year but for the next 2-3.
On this one, I'll just say that I don't favor five year players in a 13 player game. Don't think that a redshirt is the answer very often. So, for me, get the most that you can out of any player, including Samba, then recruit an even better player.

Ayo and Giorgi will be great but I am officially worried about every other freshman on the team.
Officially worried about Freshmen after 7 games? Six months ago, those guys were going to their Senior Prom.

If you don't see leaves on a tree by the first week of March, do you cut it down?

Give it time to unfold.

I think we were going on a bit of an important run in the first half and then Kipper got that tech that gave them to foul shots and the ball! The momentum
stopped and we never got it back!
Agree. Thought that was the single worst moment of the game and a big swing.
More than the difference in the final score, as well.
Stupid . . . all for the joy of getting in a shove.

A couple of thoughts...

  • WE HAVE TO STOP FOULING SO MUCH!!!! (although some of those calls were pretty iffy by the refs)
  • Trent and Ayo were just off. If one of them played even 50% of how they normally do, we win. How often am I going to think/say this about Player X this year? Guess that's the curse of a young team.
  • Seemed like we came out slow/sloppy/lax at the start of each half. Need consistent effort the whole game.
  • Giorgi lets so many rebounds that are within his grasp get out. Not sure how you coach/teach better hands.
  • Aaron and Giorgi offensively? VERY nice!
  • Kipper? I just don't have the words...
  • Why didn't Alan Griffin and Samba play more? 4 minutes total between them?
  • Does look like Jones is out for a bit: Jones Suspended

Where would we be without Giorgi? For the record Giorgi is going to be really really really really good. He’s going to be up and down this year but overall I think he’s a pro. Love his attitude and confidence already. He’s got those intangibles you can’t teach.

We need to give Kane some valuable court time because De La Rose is a 7' waste of space

I compared him to Thorne IF we were lucky when we got him....WOW, who knew that was going to be so far off? Yea Yea he is coming back from injury to try to fight his way through a final season, commendable but not helpful. Thorne was way better and he was BAD.

Still think he can have an Augie type career when done.

Yes it would be awesome if BU played freshmen that don't know or can't play the offense or defense in winnable games.

No. You are right. The individuals that have been given the chance have gotten it done. Right? Maybe it will play out different as the season moves along but I doubt it. Adonis is too slow to play in this offense and BU is handcuffing Kip and the young kids (minus AYO) to where they are too afraid or don't have an opportunity to play in the flow of the game. Just my thoughts but tell me you didn't see that 3 man freshmen fast break GIF from practice and think there were better things coming. We'll never see it if they don't get to play meaningful minutes. More likely to see it happen against us......with freshmen on the other side.

iffy is being polite, IMHO.....looked like alot of no contact anticipation calls by refs...saw Ayo get bumped on a rebound and no call...plenty of contact by ND on some of our dribble drives and no calls....that stretch of 3-4 and one calls on us looked suspicious at best and

TF's last shot went down 3/4 quarters but out...

Please Lord please let it go in.....

If Kipper were half the player he was last year (during the good times) we'd have two more wins.

Not sure why, but our offense is just not working - teams are using GTown model and are really negating the cuts to the basket - and are jumping the handoff. We need a plan B for offense as this one is just not working and the team seems to be thinking way too much on what to do.

We did have good moments where we drove the lanes yesterday (DMW, AJ) and kicked out or shot in the first half - but for some reason we abandoned that - perhaps Durham was the issue - in which case we should have drawn him away from the basket.

Help D was much better yesterday, but the O is really halting and slow. The cutters are even seeing it and not even trying anymore.

Agree the offense isn't working.
oh and the D was not working so we changed
If that shot goes down we are still the worst Illini team I have seen.
You can not play walk-ons before scholarship players on the reg.

It is time for Frazier to become a more consistent player. If he wants to get to the next level that he is capable of he needs to be a more consistent player within games and also from game to game. It is hard for this team to overcome 6 points from him and win on the road. Hopefully as the season progresses he will become more consistent on a nightly basis. Kipper not playing well is a huge problem for this team we need his physicality, athleticism and scoring and right now getting very little out of him on a nightly basis. The Tevian Jones situation is also certainly concerning he was considered a big get by us has basically done nothing and is now suspended indefinitely. Situation certainly doesn't sound good and we will have to see where all of that goes.

Like others have said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Samba get more minutes. He’s going to get pushed around a lot on the inside but his lateral quickness and length could help defensively. De La Rosa is a big body, but he is slow and honestly I never feel like any of his shots will ever go on. They seem way off.....Sandy Lyle-esque

LOL at being worried about Freshman after 7 games. Their careers are definitely doomed.

They are low ranked recruits outside of Ayo. Giorgi has surprised (greatly) but the freshmen are going to need some time, and we knew that going in.
